Damiano's DEEP THROAT revolutionized the porn industry and achieved a commercial success beyond the wildest dreams (pun intended) of everyone then and now. DOWN THE THROAT is the current Gold Standard for this sort of content, though by now the market niche has become specialized.
Director Eddie Powell has cranked out hundreds of these gonzo exercises, but practice makes perfect. The four lengthy vignettes presented here are tough to beat in the genre, and in fact the two follow-up videos he's released are not stimulating at this level.
Each of the four actresses does an interview introduction which seems canned, and with identical spiels included almost reminded me of the practice of forcing POWs to recite a propaganda script or else. Of course, these gals do not face the prospect of being beheaded, but rather... (you complete the dumb joke).
In a conventional porn film the act of deep throat has always been built up as a big deal - difficult, even painful with the image of a previously immaculate young lady reduced to the Heath Ledger as The Joker look - extremely smeared mascara - sticking in one's mind.
Here, however, the performers are all proud of their sword-swallowing abilities, resistant to gagging, choking or other mortal reactions. The repeated d.t. demos would seem boring except they remain a relative novelty. Bobbi Bliss a decade or so ago was the industry's Queen of this art but apparently Powell now has to turn away applicants for the job.
My favorites on the video are Jenna J. Ross, arguably the greatest young talent in porn today, and the much-tattooed Karment Karma. But what makes this video worthwhile is that the other two segments are equally good: cute blonde Tracey Sweet and the most bosomy of the bunch, Bella Reese.
Peter North may have cornered the niche with his Deep Throat This! series, but he went to the well way too often, and I gave up on watching those long before they hit double digits. Powell is likely to suffer the same fate with DTT but the initial one is worth checking out.
