Glenn Danzig is such a big Elvis Presley fan that he’s covered numerous songs by the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Danzig said that Elvis’ ’68 Comeback Special was a response to various cultural forces of the time, including hippies. He has a point.
Glenn Danzig felt Elvis Presley’s ’68 Comeback Special’ was a response to the British Invasion
During a 2020 interview with Rolling Stone, the “Mother” singer was asked what he thought of Elvis’ ’68 Comeback Special. “I remember watching it as a kid and thinking, ‘Wow. This is pretty cool,'” he recalled. “He basically hadn’t done any live performing.
“He came back from the Army and was just doing movies,” he said. “Then all this stuff was happening like the British Invasion and the Mod thing and hippies. I think he was like, ‘Where’s my place?’ So he went, ‘I’m Elvis. This is my place.

Elvis Presley is set to join Abba in the strange new world of immersive concerts more than 45 years after he passed away.
The Return to Sender and Hound Dog superstar, who had an Oscar-nominated movie made about him last year, will be brought to life in London in November before moving to Las Vegas, Berlin and Tokyo.
British immersive entertainment outfit Layered Reality, which has previously made immersive experiences on the Gunpowder Plot and The War of The Worlds, has secured the global rights for the Elvis Evolution show.
Taking place in a yet-to-be-named Central London location, the show will feature a life-sized digital Elvis and make use of AI, holographic projection, augmented reality, live theatre and multi-sensory effects, Layered Reality said. CEO Andrew McGuinness told the BBC it would be “a next-generation tribute to the musical legend” and allow people to “step into the world of Elvis and walk...

Elvis Presley‘s “That’s All Right” caused a stir when it was first released in 1954. A contemporary rock ‘n’ roll singer was less impressed with the song. Regardless, it went on to become a standard for later generations of rockers.
Elvis Presley’s ‘That’s All Right’ was born out of a spontaneous moment during a break
According to a 2022 video from the Elvis YouTube channel, record executive Sam Phillips of Sun Records booked a session with Elvis when the singer was trying to break into the industry. Phillips wanted to find the right song for Elvis to sing, but nothing seemed to fit.
During a break, Elvis started singing an uptempo cover of Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup’s blues song “That’s All Right.” Phillips sent the cover to the radio program Red Hot & Blue. The song received an overwhelmingly positive reception and the radio station received 40 phone calls.

Elvis Presley‘s “Good Luck Charm” is one of the many Elvis hits that the world forgot. Notably, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll felt two songwriters were his good luck charms. They had nothing to do with the song, which became a sad demarcation point in the singer’s career.
Who wrote Elvis Presley’s ‘Good Luck Charm’
Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller wrote many Elvis tunes. During a 2020 interview with Elvis Australia, Stoller discussed Elvis. “He respected us,” Stoller recalled. “We came to know what a great talent he was very quickly after starting to work with him. The other thing is there was a creative rapport, and we were told numerous times after Jailhouse Rock that he considered us his good luck charms. He always wanted us in the studio.

Elvis Presley songs weren’t always great. For example, he recorded a track about talking shrimp. He also released a song where he humiliated a man for eating too much.
Elvis Presley | Archive Photos / Stringer 5. ‘Song of the Shrimp’
Elvis’ movie Girls! Girls! Girls! is less than inspired. It features one great song: “Return to Sender.” Sadly, the track is clumsily employed in the film, where it plays over a suspenseful scene even though it’s a bright pop song.
The other notable song from Girls! Girls! Girls! is “Song of the Shrimp.” It’s a song about talking shrimp. It’s a bad song, partially because there’s no way anyone could write a good song about talking shrimp. Strangely, it sounds a tad like “Kiss the Girl” from Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Elvis recorded songs in many genres but calypso was out of his range. The fake accent here is so offensive.

Though the confusingly named initiative “FX on Hulu” is on its way out, FX is still bringing premium television to Hulu in the meantime.
Hulu’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by FX limited series Under the Banner of Heaven. This adaptation of the non-fiction book by John Krakauer stars Andrew Garfield as a Mormon police detective whose faith is shaken when investigating a murder involving the church.
It’s not all just FX on the TV side of things for Hulu this month, however. The streamer is debuting second seasons of its series The Hardy Boys (April 6) and Woke (April 8). There isn’t much to report from Hulu’s original movies arm aside from true crime documentary Captive Audience on April 21. But that doc about one family’s 50-year journey for justice sounds like a must-watch.

The Indie Meme Film Festival, Austin’s leading cinema event curating South Asian independent cinema, returns to movie theaters for the first time in two years. The festival, which was presented virtually in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, comes back in a hybrid format.
The festival will showcase nearly three dozen films from South Asian filmmakers, covering a variety of poignant topics. Each film tells a unique and diverse story of South Asian lives: a child’s struggle in remote India, an Iranian family seeking asylum in Europe, domestic abuse, alcoholism, mental health, patriarchy and colonialism.
Many of the films in this year’s festival focus on issues important to women, including sexuality, education and the family unit.
Through it all, this year’s lineup is a testament to the importance of accepting people for who they are, and each story is told so that audiences of all backgrounds can relate.

CBS’ ‘Beyond the Edge’ Sent Celebrities to the Jungle — And Producers Were Terrified They’d All Quit
CBS and the producers behind the network’s new reality series “Beyond the Edge” were bracing for their celebrity cast to mutiny. They even had contingency plans in place, just in case their stars decided to give up in the face of grueling conditions.
“I remember in the middle of production, saying on multiple occasions, ‘I can’t believe they’re still out there,’” says CBS alternative series senior VP Mitch Graham. “You never know in a new format, what you’re going to get. We had an eight-episode order in place. My biggest concern was whether or not people would stick with it, and whether we could actually complete a series order.”
Created and produced by Renegade, the company behind Discovery’s long-running smash “Naked and Afraid”, “Beyond the Edge” features nine celebs roughing it on an island in Panama, teaming up and competing in challenges to earn money for their designated charities.

From Cyrano to The Last Duel, the world of medieval chivalry is big on screen – and its preoccupation with appearances isn’t so far from our own
Against our backdrop of revenge porn, dick pic-strewn online dating and embittered incel manifestos, the notion of courtly love couldn’t seem more remote. Cilla Black and Blind Date now seem like something from medieval times – so where does that leave an actual medieval sentimental convention? A goodly knight inspired to perform virtuous deeds and compose the sublimest verse in honour of an idealised lady-love – it’s enough to make a 21st-century onanist yawn and reach for their Fleshlight.
But romance and chivalry aren’t quite dead yet. Cyrano de Bergerac is back in a new musical version this month, as Peter Dinklage lends his alexandrines to help a mate woo the beautiful Roxanne. Married off to no-nonsense bruiser Matt Damon in Ridley Scott...

Filmmakers and musicians will once again explore an alternate avenue of collaboration at this year’s Revelation Perth International Film Festival via the Blind Date competition.
Awarded live at the Luna Cinemas during the festival in July, the competition connects musicians and aspiring filmmakers to create video clips without the two sides ever meeting.
Each artist can share two songs for filmmakers to choose from, with Blind Date’s ringmaster and mastermind, Jen Jamieson, confirming whether selections are available – and if the musicians are keen to appear in their videos.
Revelation Perth International Film Festival director Richard Sowada said the connection between the festival and music was a time-honoured tradition.
“Rev started life in the basement back room of Perth’s Greenwich jazz club and we’ve always been passionate about supporting independent artists,” he said.
“Many great directors cut their teeth making music videos, including the likes of David Fincher,...

Game Of Talents’ launch on Fox last week marked an important milestone for a format that is hoping to follow in the footsteps of The Masked Singer. Like its Korean counterpart, the entertainment show hails from a country not exactly known for being a formidable exporter of formats (Spain), and like The Masked Singer, distributor Fremantle hopes success on Fox can propel the show into an elite band of global hits.
The man tasked with making this happen is Rob Clark, Fremantle’s director of global entertainment, who has helped usher Game Of Talents from a Spanish pilot more than two years ago, to the bright lights of Fox on a Wednesday night. Clark’s career is steeped in entertainment hits, from working on iconic series including Wheel of Fortune and Blind Date, to building global juggernauts out of shows including Got Talent and The Apprentice.

Many people would love the chance to climb into an Rv and drive around the English countryside with Colin Firth for weeks. For Stanley Tucci, it was indeed fun — but also challenging. The two actors play longtime lovers on a final road trip in “Supernova,” which arrives on demand Feb. 12. Tusker (Tucci) is entering the stages of dementia, leaving Sam (Firth) to struggle with his care as they travel to visit friends and family, likely for the last time.
Written and directed by Harry Macqueen, “Supernova” is an independent film shot in England when the weather was less than desirable. “I don’t mind the cold if it’s snowing, but it’s that English Winter,” Tucci said. “It’s the wettest. There is one town not far from where we were, which is the wettest place in England, if you can imagine such a thing.”

Rosamund Pike clearly relishes the opportunity to play characters with a bit of a nasty streak. Whether it’s earning critical acclaim as the conniving Amy in David Fincher’s “Gone Girl” or as a surgeon on a mission of revenge in the little-seen B-movie “Return to Sender.” Her latest film, “I Care A Lot,” is screening at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival and, once again, finds her going full throttle as an unexpected anti-hero.

Mubi's retrospective Outlaw Auteur: Joseph Losey is showing March 30 - May 26, 2020 in the United Kingdom.Above: EvaThe blacklist could be a death certificate or a plane ticket. Informers and suspects alike didn’t work after the United States government went around asking who was a communist and who wasn’t. The list of people who stood up to it is small, the number of people who survived the j’accuse smaller. Director Joseph Losey left the States when he learned his name had been given to House Un-American Activities Committee, to go finish Stranger on the Prowl (1952), when the original director Bernard Vorhaus was fired. Losey came home a year later to find himself radioactive. He left again, and he never came home. Not really. He was an obviously skilled director in America but he was just hitting his stride. Dating is stressful enough without the added pressure of making history on an iconic American television show, but Ciara, the first out transgender woman in “Blind Date” history, told TheWrap that both were surprisingly easy.
“I was very nervous, of course, but it was a lot of fun, actually,” she said, explaining it had “been a minute” since she’d been on any dates before she was selected, let alone one with a stranger orchestrated and filmed by a television crew.
“I actually, at some point, forgot the cameras were there,” added the star of the groundbreaking episode, which airs Wednesday night on Bravo, where the decades-old “Blind Date” series has been revamped. The show returns from a mid-season break at 11:30 Pm Et/Pt with four new episodes airing back-to-back.

The film Yesterday imagines a world where the Beatles never existed. But what might have filled the gap?
In Danny Boyle's film Yesterday, a struggling young musician played by Jack Malik suffers an accident at exactly the same moment a major power surge burns all evidence of former skiffle group the Beatles out of the collective memory of the masses. Only the musician remembers the songs, the stories, and the band's place in the history of popular music. The film, however, is still set in a world where the culture that was shaped by the influence of four relatively working class musicians from a port city remained curiously intact. The Rolling Stones are still around; so is Childish Gambino, thank the gods of music. But Oasis doesn't come up on Google searches when partnered with “Wonderwall.” We can assume there was no Squeeze, Electric Light Orchestra,...

Few would argue that Rosamund Pike stole the show in David Fincher’s psychological thriller Gone Girl, portraying an unhinged sociopath that still sends shivers down our spines to this day. Imagine our disappointment, then, when the Oscar-nominated actress followed up Fincher’s opus with middling thriller Return To Sender.
No matter, because Deadline reports that Pike is circling her next potential project, and it’s one that goes by the name Guernsey. Mike Newell of Four Weddings and a Funeral fame is behind the camera, and it’s understood that Pike is currently in contention to play the role of Juliet Ashton – a role that’s attracted the likes of Kate Winslet, Lily James and Rebecca Ferguson in recent times.

Truly embracing the meaningful relationships and consequences that arise from the most critical situations in your life can be both a fulfilling and daunting experience. With her new independent thriller, ‘Return to Sender,’ Emmy Award-winning actress Camryn Manheim charmingly relishes the experience of working with a passionate cast and crew to create a daunting story about what happens when a well-meaning protagonist is pushed beyond her emotional limits. The film, which was released on Blu-ray and DVD today by Rlj Entertainment, features the intriguing actress in a supporting role to a lead character who becomes a classic anti-hero after starting to fight back against an injustice against her. Director Fouad [ Read More ]

Let’s get this out of the way immediately – Return to Sender, a so-called “thriller” that exists solely to capitalize on the icily serene beauty of star Rosamund Pike, is no Gone Girl. Artless, queasy and agonizingly dull from first frame to last, it’s more akin to a particularly ugly Lifetime Original Movie than that delectably vicious cult phenomenon or really anything with which you’d expect to see a star of Pike’s caliber associated.
And yet, director Fouad Mikati somehow landed the Oscar nominee – whose deer-in-headlights terror on screen could easily have been elicited by her realization that Return to Sender will always lurk on her IMDb page. She plays dedicated nurse Miranda, who tends to her patients with practiced precision but shows none of the same enthusiasm for her love life. Miranda, unfortunately, is a pancake-flat character, made ever flatter by Patricia Beauchamp and Joe Gossett’s howlingly awful script.

At some point in “Return to Sender,” a character calls another, “Stupid and predictable.” I could have easily repeated that sentiment as my review for this uninspired thriller and called it a day. What we have here is a misguided attempt at creating an intelligent and thought-provoking thriller about a controversial subject that’s far from intelligent and insightful, and as far away from thrilling as you can possibly get. The incredibly simplistic story opens with Miranda (Rosamund Pike), an ambitious nurse about to be promoted to the prestigious surgery department of her hospital (a fact that’s pounded into the audience’s skulls every couple of minutes in order to pay off in clunky fashion during the climax), finally agreeing to go on a blind date set up by one of her colleagues. Unfortunately for Miranda, the man she thought to be her date turns out to be a...

Harder Candy: Pike Headlines Predictably Exploitative Rape Thriller
It seems Rosamund Pike is now the girl most likely to…. exact ruthless retribution on her instigators, if judging from the latest indie thriller Return to Sender, unfortunately arriving on the heels of her Oscar nominated success in last year’s comparably themed David Fincher film, Gone Girl. But the pedigree of auteur assistance is not on hand with Fouad Mikati’s sophomore effort, his first film since 2010’s Operation: Endgame. Somehow, he amassed a rather respectable cast for this grindhouse knockoff that could have easily premiered on Lifetime if Pike hadn’t suddenly become such a hot commodity. To be fair, we’ll have to wait another year or so to appreciate the actress in some higher quality offerings, and by then this will most likely be forgotten about.
Surgical nurse Miranda Wells (Pike) seems to have a bright future ahead of her.
