Just as Olivia and Jack are able to get over the lighthouse issue for their relationship to get back on track, another issue comes up, namely the arrival into Cedar Cove of Jack's son, Eric Griffith, who Jack has not seen in years and had no idea even where he was. Eric, who has been somewhat drifting over his life in following the whims of girlfriend after girlfriend, wants to stay temporarily with his father until he can get back on his feet. Jack feels it's the least he can do as he admits that he was not a very good father, something which he is still struggling with with Eric's current visit. Regardless, he feels he has to put Eric first at this time. However, Eric may have his own ulterior motives. Charlotte thinks she recognizes the verbally uncommunicative elderly John Doe to who she keeping company in the convalescent home. He eventually passes away but not before he is able to pass to her a key, the associated lock for which she, with a little help, goes on a search. These two issues in combination may affect Jack and Olivia's burgeoning relationship. Just as Justine and Seth decide to start dating each other again, Seth heads off on another fishing trip, leaving Justine to contemplate if she can handle being in a long distance relationship. And Maryellen becomes jealous of Justine, who Grace seems to be gushing over with no praise extended toward Maryellen's own accomplishments.
