"Marigold" was the first play publicly broadcast after the opening of the BBC's regular, high-definition, television service on 2 November 1936 (The Man with a Flower in His Mouth (1930) was the first play broadcast on television in the United Kingdom).
This version of the play was abbreviated from the one then being performed at The Royalty Theatre in London. The play was premiered in London at The Kingsway Theatre in 1927.
This dramatisation was repeated, twice, on BBC Television, on 30 November 1936. Due to lack of recording means, this meant the play was restaged twice that day, in the afternoon and in the evening. Sophie Stewart was not available to play "Marigold Sellar" and her part was played by Katharine Page for both broadcasts.
This programme is believed to be lost.
