It's a rainy Sunday in London's Petticoat Lane -- you can spot several umbrellas -- and it's an open-air market, like a flea market. People hawk their wares and listen to speakers like lower-class Hyde Park orators.
Yet, do they? The people are very much aware of the camera as it goes through its slow pans and they freeze in poses suitable for portrait photography or wave hats or grin at the camera. There are also several cuts as the camera shifts to show different scenes: a man standing over a table of trousers; another man who speaks to what appears to be his son.
It's an engaging scene as people use their one full day of leisure to take care of their shopping. People forget just how crowded a city could be when people live in their neighborhoods instead of just sleeping there.
