- Six-year-old Aaron, who lost his mom a few months ago, now buries his dad, a fallen U.S. army soldier. The memories of his parents shape his destiny into a hero, all while embracing the love from his patriotic, immigrant grandparents.
- From the sound of combat in a warehouse at an unknown location to an immigrant and former U.S. army veteran walking sharply to the casket of his son, David. He lays a U.S. flag on top of the casket before shedding tears and snapping a salute, revealing David to be a fallen army soldier. As a group of diverse friends and family assemble to bury David, his six-year-old orphan son, Aaron, emotionally stares at his dad's purple heart before exiting the car at the cemetery. During the burial, Aaron walks over to a tombstone and drops to his knees. We see that the deceased is his mom who died at 30 years old. There, Aaron rests his cheek on her tombstone where it says "Mother" while simultaneously watching his father's casket being lowered into the ground. They are one as he dreams fond memories of the three of them playing in their backyard, and even of he and his father visiting his mother's grave. Later at the cemetery, he further contemplates his loss while gazing at his father's West Point graduation ring near a statue of a fallen soldier being held by an angel. The family's Muslim-American identity is revealed in the epilogue when Aaron's immigrant head-scarf wearing grandmother says "I love this country" while holding a picture of her son, David, with Aaron. Older Aaron, a lieutenant in the special forces, then leads his diverse team into combat. Light surrounds them as we're drawn back to the statue of the angel holding the fallen soldier. Aaron has now joined his parents.
