On November 24, 1971 he hijacked a flight from Portland, Oregon to Seattle, Washington, he told one of the fight attendants to inform the pilots that he had a bomb and demanded $200,000 in ransom from the government and that he also wanted four parachutes. After landing in Seattle Cooper released the passengers after the FBI delivered the money and parachutes, Cooper instructed the pilots to take off and fly to Mexico City, with a refueling stop in Reno, Nevada, he instructed them to fly no faster than 100 knots and maintain an altitude of no more than 10,000 feet. 30 minutes into the flight Cooper opened the rear door of the plane and parachuted into a forested area over southwest Washington; a small amount of the money was recovered in the area in 1980 but as of 2023 the rest of the money was never found and Cooper remains at large and unidentified. However, he was discribed as a man in his mid-40s. If still alive DB Cooper would be in his mid to late 90s.
