Poorly made cash-in on vampire craze offers little
lor_23 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Inexplicably lauded within the Adult Industry, director Harry Sparks hands in a timid, badly shot "The Vampire Mistress", its sole virtue being brevity at 78 minutes. Or you are invited to watch a 23-minute "non-sex" version on the worthless 2nd DVD included as a so-called bonus, pure marketing hype.

Dani Daniels stars as a newspaper reporter assigned by her boss to interview members of a vampire cult headquartered outside of L.A. Title character is Lily LaBeau, turning in an okay performance as leader of the BDSM-lite group which kidnaps Dani and makes her a vampire.

At this point the entire mess falls apart, with Sparks' interest in comic books giving Dani super-powers which allow her to overpower the veteran vampires holding her. Meagre special effects are poor and a police SWAT team stand-off finale is literally phoned in, as Sparks fails to attempt even a modicum of action footage. Instead we have the police captain failing to heed Dani's warning about the dangers involved, leading to an open ending promising a dreaded sequel. He's one of several male extras (like her boss) thrown into a lesbian sex opus.

Lighting is inept throughout the feature, as the director attempts some artsy back-lighting, dimly lit scenes and visual distortion that only prove he never learned to crawl cinematically before he tried to sprint. Sex scenes, all 56 minutes of them, are rendered deficient by the distracting lack of visual clarity.

Sparks' latest release is another, unasked-for porn "parody" (= ripoff) of "Beauty and the Beast". After watching this botched vampire saga, I conclude that he should have reflected on his own career and ripped off "The Emperor's New Clothes" instead.
