Wow I did not see that coming!!! It seems like this show is just one of those that has a revolving door of characters. It's difficult when they leave at first because they are all so good. I still miss Humphrey terribly!!! It's nice that some characters re appear. Perhaps that's why this show has been so successful.

But this loss is so sad because he literally grew up on the show. He was one character with the most development. I understand the actor wanting to spread his wings though.

Looks like there may be an old face or two returning. Hopefully the magic will continue.

Death in Paradise is truly something special!!

End of the road for a member of the team.

Warning: Spoilers
Marlon receives a strange phone call from his former boss Ray Saunders, when he goes to meet him, he finds him dead, a race to find the killer begins, the only witness, Ray's pet parrot.

Is it just me, or did this look and feel very different, new cameras, new team? It definitely felt different, visually that is. It didn't also feel like the conventional Death in Paradise Whodunnit, fewer suspects, it was almost more of a whydunnit.

It hasn't been the best series for Marlon, he hasn't had a big storyline as such, until this one, and of course we now know why. Tahj Miles really did steal the show here.

With the focus more so on Marlon's decision to move on, the Whodunnit element does take a backseat somewhat, but it's still a good episode.

Always good to see guy Henry, a really fine actor, he goes down as another on that growing list of wasted acting talent on Death in Paradise.

That face from the past was a very welcome sight.

7/10.

Episode 5

Warning: Spoilers
Ray Saunders (Guy Henry) comes across as some new age guru with a talking parrot. Only he was Marlon's ex boss when he used to sell bootleg DVDs.

Marlon gets a surprising phone call from Ray and it sounds urgent. When Marlon arrives he finds his ex boss dead and someone hits Marlon on the head.

DI Neville Parker believes that there are only two main suspects. Max Saunders who was Ray's estranged son. He loathed his dad who owed him money and he also blamed Ray for sending him to jail.

The other suspect is Booker St Jean, Ray's fixer and right hand man. He has no motive to kill Ray. Meanwhile Max does have a motive but a solid alibi.

As for Commissioner Patterson, he finds out that Marlon is leaving the island as his sister has got a scholarship in Jamaica.

A slight change in formula with only two main suspects. There was no need for DI Parker to round up the suspects. As is the case with breaking a perfect alibi. Someone is lying or the the time of death must be wrong.

Great episode

Warning: Spoilers
This is really almost a different episode compared to the others. The formulaic story line is different in the fact that is of focusing s lot on a Marlon. However at the end, the formula returns.

All of the cast are rallying behind him to get a job as he is to leave the Island to go with his sister who has a scholarship. He has to go with her as his mother has to stay the island.

There are questions on the filming of this episode. Marlon and. DS Florence and having a heart to heart with the sun setting far behind them, yet the bright light is from their left casting shadows to the right. Later DS Neville Parker and DS Florence are discussing the case still in earshot of the victims son who is also s suspect.

The inspectors blog, I thought the sunset chaser might be one of his colleagues. I was wrong.

Love the end where Max Saunders says "Get off me, I'm drowning", he is the shallows on the waters edge.

I'm pleased that all is good for Marlon as he is a likeable character. Great to see JP back.

Dramatic changes

Warning: Spoilers
When I get around to watching this episode, I had no idea that Tahj Miles (Officer Marlon Pryce) would be leaving by the end of the episode. It came as a shock, but maybe because I didn't catch up on the internet articles about Miles's departure, and I'm glad I didn't init. Anyway, we farewell Pryce and his sister Jocelyn Pryce (Miai Leonie Phillip) who head off to the big smoke in Jamaica, and guess what, another surprise, with the re-appearance of DS J. P. Hooper (Tobi Bakare) who helps the Commissioner (Don Warrington, who I think has been in every episode of Death in Paradise) secure a job for Pryce. Anyway, the twist at the end with the murder was quite unexpected init. We shall see in the following episode who replaced Pryce!

An Officer and a stranger
Mothership819 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
First off, are we just expected to accept a police officer (a detective no less) is infatuated with a stranger online? Giggling? Huh? Of all the people in the world trained on predator danger, we have the detective who "chatted for hours" online and then we have Darlene oohing and aahing over the fact as well. Really? Are we that naive as humans these days? Just plain stupid, amateur writing.

Anyway onto the story of the rest of the episode. It was a fine episode centered mainly on Marlon and his association with an ex crim boss and also his relationship with his sister, which was lovely to see. Several things happen so Marlon makes a decision about his future.

It was nice also to see an old face popping up.
