Wobbly opening
Ricky Greenwood likes to resurrect or at least interpret traditional Hollywood film genres in his porn features, and for the 4-part Digital Playground series "Gold Diggers" tackles the old-fashioned Western. Not a Leone, Sollima, Eastwood or Costner version, but the oldest cliches.
With an attractive cast headed by superstar Abigail Mac, Episode One (NOTE: Sloppy opening credits spell it "Epsidoe One", oops!) takes seven minutes to set the scene rather poorly.
It's 1850 in California Territory, at the sleepy tiny town of Santa Clarita, with Adria Rae walking her horse into town -why not riding? Similarly, Ricky Johnson saunters into town on foot, not even having a horse. Alarm bells ringing from the outset, amplified by the Gold Diggers saloon set being a tiny room, nicely decorated by Kylie Ireland (and her hubby) as set designer, but way too small.
That saloon is the setting for 40 minutes of XXX sex as Ricky gets serviced by bartender Abigail Mac and her barmaid Gal Ritchie in a well-performed but tedious 3-way. Scene ends with some exposition regarding Ricky hunting for wanted man Charles Glanton, with a $1,000 reward on his head for "war crimes and offences committed against tribal people" (I admire the revisionist language used here!) plus Rae making a come-on outside to cute handywoman Kimmy Granger.
With the cast affecting folksy Southern accents, scriptwriter Shawn Alff and director Greenwood elected to start off at a sleepy pace, hopeful that Mac and lovely Ritchie humping away will keep the fans satisfied, but they better pick up the pace to entice viewership of the remaining episodes (or should I say epsidoes?).
