Several of the principle actors in the film (Delaney, Coykendall, White, and Cochrane, to name a few) are, or have been, resident actors at Impact Theatre in Berkeley, CA.
The Platt House, the location in which Joe deals Fluoride to the rap star, is modeled and named after an actual house in Pleasanton, CA; It was visited by the Medias Res writers a few times in the early 2000's.
Crew person Nic Nunes (sound recorder) appears in the film multiple times: As a Fluoride junkie at the Platt House, his middle and last names are used for a Quintessential American actor, and finally, he appeared in (shot but deleted) news footage (most likely referencing his Platt House character).
The role of "Joe" was written specifically for Joseph Mason. The filmmakers took many anecdotes from Mason's past and included them in the the character of Joe. The role of "Troy Boy" was originally written for Dustin Diamond, who became unavailable due to legal troubles; Michael Garrett McDonald was hired in his place.
