Mary Yelland is repeatedly seen working and running in a full-length skirt which was often covered in mud. However it was customary for women who were working in the fields to tuck their skirts up for ease.
In the opening scene, a field was shown that had been ploughed with a modern six- or eight-furrow plough, long before this had been invented and single-furrow ploughs were the only type available. Likewise a wheeled hoe from the 1930s was seen, though the episode was set over one hundred years earlier.
