One of the three legendary coaches that Cam mentions while discussing his chance to become the most successful first-year coach in school history is Ducky Pond. Raymond "Ducky" Pond was, in fact, an actual football coach that coached for 7 years at Yale University and 7 years at Bates College. His 1936 and 1937 Yale teams both finished ranked 12th in the AP college football poll.
Phil's play, the triple gull wing, is a reference to the movie The Waterboy (1998) when coach Klein (Henry Winkler) had a mini melt down during Bobby's interview.
After greeting prospective buyers, Phil wipes his mouth with the cat that lives in the house he is selling. However, the cat looks identical to Larry, the cat which belongs to Mitch and Cam who do not live there.
