Painful Ending for the Right Reasons

Warning: Spoilers
I'm keeping in mind that this show, like any other show, is not for everyone in terms of interests for different types of narrative. I personally wish the show didn't go this route by having Rachel and Santana end their friendship for a Broadway role. It felt painful to see Rachel rip apart a friendly photo of the two in front of Santana's face. Although I understand that moment is meant to convey more drama, I also thought that was already too much to get the main point across. At the same time, I think it is good to give the story more depth by showing that their high school personalities are still a part of their characters. That challenges the characters to face the same obstacles when they're no longer in a high school setting. I get it if that was the only way to get the show to progress, but I really wish there was another way to handle the ending differently.
