This clip of Disney animator Glen Keane drawing Ariel in 3D is pretty cool. James Corden is known for having some pretty interesting bits on his show but this is something else. At first you get the feeling that he’s scribbling over his own drawing, and then the view pulls out and you see he’s doing actual 3D, meaning that there is more than one viewpoint on this particular drawing. Given that he’s a legendary Disney animator it’s not too hard to believe that he can do all this from memory. He’s probably drawn thousands of pictures of so many

One day after Morgan Spurlock resigned from the production company he co-founded following his disclosure that a woman “believed she had been raped” by the documentarian, his remaining partners have pulled his upcoming film from the 2018 Sundance Film Festival.

“Due to Morgan Spurlock stepping down from Warrior Poets, we the partners have decided that this is not the appropriate time for ‘Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken!’ to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival,” wrote co-founder/partner Jeremy Chilnick and partner Matthew Galkin in a statement released December 15. “Therefore, we will be removing the documentary from the festival’s slate.”
The film first screened at September’s Toronto International Film Festival, where YouTube Red paid $3.5 million for the distribution rights. It chronicles Spurlock’s decision to open a fast food restaurant in Columbus, Ohio that sold only “hormone-free,...

Virtual reality isn't just an escape f0r Wade Watts, it's a chance for a better real life. The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the Oasis, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). Virtual Reality (Vr) is still a pretty new thing. It’s been growing for the last few years but is still in its infancy. We constantly hear about new games like Fallout coming to Vr or short videos on YouTube such as this It video.
Now, Paramount Pictures has decided to take it to a new level: Virtual Reality Movie Theaters. These theaters would reportedly just require you to put on your Vr headset at home and it would generate the theater around you including other audience members.
It sounds like an interesting idea to me, watch a movie in the “theater” without leaving home sounds great, but I don’t know how I feel about having to wear the headset. I'm the person who doesn't like 3D movies because I have to wear the glasses!

Earlier this year the tech blog Engadget announced that they were giving away half a million dollars in $100,000 chunks to five media arts pieces exploring the technologies of Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and Mixed Reality. We were on hand to try out each of the pieces and report back on what's going on in what's collective being called, Xr. Dinner Party The most narrative piece of the five is Angel Manuel Soto's 360 Vr story about one of the most famous alien abduction tales. Virtual reality, which thousands of people are betting billions of dollars it will be a big part of the future of entertainment, is at a crossroads. Equipment sales have hit a plateau despite price chops, and even for those who shell out hundreds of dollars for an Oculus Rift or Htc Vive and a gaming PC, there’s not exactly a Netflix-sized pool of premium content to wade their way through. That shouldn’t be too surprising – after all, the entire technology is only a few years old. But fortunately, the next generation of potential Vr impresarios – and maybe even its.

Virtual reality — with a few notable exceptions — is still a work in progress. That’s what I was left thinking after leaving the Oculus La holiday party on Tuesday night. The event itself was well done: set up at the trendy Mack Sennett Studios in Silver Lake, California, with plenty of open space and experiences to try out, a DJ spinning, and even an open bar (journalistic integrity kept me from indulging, of course). But after checking out several of the experiences on hand, you couldn’t help but think there are still a few steps to take before Vr reaches.

Level of Difficulty: 2/10. Ok, it’s not exactly hard being pampered on the ultimate luxury train. But hey, it’s not easy to walk on a rocking train, especially after a couple of the signature Guilty 12 cocktails. (The dozen ingredients? They’re a mystery, of course.)

ScreenAnarchy has your first look at the trailer for Rob W. King's dystopian thriller The Humanity Bureau starring Nicolas Cage. The Humanity Bureau is the second title in a six-picture slate deal between Minds Eye Entertainment, Vmi worldwide and Bridgegate Pictures following Wesley Snipes's The Recall, which was recently released. Shot in Canada, The Humanity Bureau used the new Barco Escape multi-screen, panoramic movie format, which is supposed to offer the ultimate immersive cinematic experience that uses three screens to fully surround the viewer. Portions of the films will also be shot in Virtual Reality. Looking at this trailer it's hard to imagine how any of that works, and experiencing the film in the intended way would depend on whether the film gets a theatrical...

It would be lovely to think that last year’s “Moonlight” Oscar wins presaged a long and permanent shift in Hollywood movie culture. At the heart of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ complex diversity issue is how much the Oscars reflect the way that the Academy likes to view itself. That helps to explain why the Academy voters did far better with their 2017 Oscar nominations than the year before, when their 6,000 members failed to nominate any actors of color at all.

When will Virtual Reality go too far, becoming a little too comfortable for us to want to leave it? That is the question raised in Real Life, the latest installment in Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams.
Sarah (Anna Paquin) is a policewoman who shares so-called “headspace” with George (Terrence Howard) a brilliant game designer. Both are pursuing violent killers whose plans have shattering consequences for their worlds. With the connection between the two realities merging closer and closer, the question has to be…what happens when one reality takes too much control?
Real Life is interesting because we’ve seen this type of scenario replicated in shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The idea that another reality can feel much more comfortable than the one we live in always raises the same question. If we had the choice, which one would we stay in? In this episode of Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams,...

As we've seen over the past few days not everything in the Fast and Furious family has been peaches and cream. Not every cast member is thrilled with the upcoming F&F spin-off focusing on Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw. Now that a record 92 countries have submitted foreign-language Oscar contenders, the Academy has to figure out what to do with them. Screening and ranking that many films is a challenging process, and Mark Johnson, chairman of the Academy’s foreign-language committee, know that it’s time for an overhaul.
“Ninety-two is a scary number,” said Johnson. “It keeps going up every year. I think it’s imminent that we will make some radical changes on how we whittle these down. I remember it was not that long ago that I would see 60 movies, that was the bulk out of 80. Now, we’ll see.”
Johnson is working on the problem with the Academy’s erudite new president, cinematographer John Bailey, who once argued rigorously in favor of Bela Tarr’s black-and-white masterpiece “The Turin Horse.”

As a platform, the Nyff is alluring. Not only does it provide Oscar-level prominence, but there’s an element of auteurist approval: It’s the sophisticated American festival that truly loves film for film. However, that’s also one of the reasons that it can be a bigger risk: Like Cannes, highbrow festivals often mean critics with highbrow expectations. Innovative documentary filmmaker Alison McAlpine is back in the indie film fold, nearly a decade after her impressive “nonfiction ghost story” short film “Second Sight” debuted in 2008. This time around, McAlpine is again gunning for distinct filmmaking, now trained literally to the heavens.
In her “Cielo,” McAlpine is focused on the skies above the Andes and the Atacama Desert in northern Chile, which will debut at the New York Film Festival next month. Details on the film are purposely slim, but its official Nyff page explains that “McAlpine keeps the vast galaxies above and beyond in a delicate balance with the earthbound world of people, gently alighting on the desert- and mountain-dwelling astronomers, fishermen, miners, and cowboys who live their lives with reverence and awe for the skies,” adding that the film “itself is an act of reverence and awe, and its sense of wonder ranges from the intimate and...

Catan Studio, Asmodee Digital and virtual reality game developer Experiment 7 have today announced a partnership to bring the acclaimed Catan board game to Vr!
Catan Vr is an immersive take on Klaus Teuber’s landmark title that revolutionized modern board gaming. This amazingly engaging game is set to release on Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear Vr later this year. Said Catan creator Klaus Teuber:
The first time I saw Catan on the Magic Table, I was fascinated by what Vr has to offer. The game I made in our living room with my family 25 years ago in Virtual Reality? It’s incredible. I never imagined actually stepping into the world of Catan when we first started making cut-outs and dreaming about exploring new lands.

Sometimes a film will speak directly to a person in an audience: A preternatural, unearthly tendril of luminous light tapping you on the shoulder, a benevolent yet mysterious voice reminding you of an obligation, or a musical, colorful Dream Message entering your eyes and speaking to your soul with wonder, awe and truth. Like other Art forms, film can do amazing things.
For me, there are definitely a few choice films of overwhelming, pristine power. Yet one cinematic work is not just great, deeply special to me: ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind.’ Directed by the Wonderkind, Steven Spielberg, directly after his landmark suspense-adventure film, ‘Jaws’.
Now, his new flick, released in 1977, also dealt with the fantastic, with riveting moments of terror… but its endgame was something quite dissimilar.
I think it would take either a first-rate Psychologist or an Exorcist with a lot of...

So many things have made this summer feel as though we’re living in an alternate reality, walking around in a daze under record-high temperatures, preparing for nuclear warfare, and secretly hoping the total solar eclipse was just a cover for aliens coming to claim Earth and solve all of our problems. But really, it doesn’t take much to push the human mind off the cliff of reality, to go from a casual stroll down the block to believing you’re wandering around lost in the sewer pipes of Derry, Maine with the rest of the Losers’ Club. That’s exactly where I found myself this past weekend, courtesy of the It Virtual Reality Float experience, which fittingly made its first stop right outside the city of brotherly love. We’re coming to save you, Georgie!

This year’s New York Film Festival has just unveiled a slew of Special Events to round out its already full-to-bursting lineup, and it includes some late-breaking entries to previously announced sections and a selection of brand new events that are very special indeed. Highlights include a trio of documentary premieres, including Susan Lacy’s “Spielberg” (focused on the eponymous director, with both Lacy and her subject set to appear at the festival), along with Jennifer Lebeau’s Bob Dylan concert film “Trouble No More,” and Susan Froemke’s “The Opera House,” a history of the Metropolitan Opera and a love letter to the art form that will (appropriately enough) screen at the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center.
Other standouts include four brand-new films from Claude Lanzmann, a sparkling new restoration of G.W. Pabst’s “Pandora’s Box.” Elsewhere, Kate Winslet will be on hand for a career-spanning chat...

KFC and Vr...who would've thought it would be such a great combination? Apparently they did as the company is currently planning on using this new Vr experience to train future employees of their chain. Check out the trailer for The Hard Way: A Virtual Reality Training Experience and continue on below:
So allegedly, KFC isn't making this game for the public (yet) but rather using it to train future employees on the proper method to making their fried chicken. Here's an official quote from KFC regarding the game:
