Clean but thats as far as it goes
john_p_mulcahy21 March 2022
Ill start with the positives: the graohics are super clean, the cars look amazing, the teacks that have elevation like Laguna Seca actually have elevation for the first time in a racing game

But

You need to be online to race single player against the AI, to do your licenses or circuit experiences.this is pointless. In reality i play Gran Turismo when the newtork is down and i can play my normal games with mates . Same for split screen multiplayer. Needs to be online!? But nore o multiplayer - i loved the assist options in gt sport thst would allow my kids to rsce me, slowly turning them off 1 by 1 until they get the hang of things. No such optons in this ga.e.kind of an ow goal for the devs too as getting them into racong sims will benefit them in the long run

My final gripes are how hard it is to earn credits to buy new cars, its clearly based around micro transactions. And the lack of single player races and modes. I go back to Gt2 with all the races from 2 laps through to 500. I don't want to do a 500lap race but the option was there

If they'd have rebuilt gt sports gameplay into this game it would've been a much better result.

Microtransactions in a $70 game...
ericfroese18 March 2022
Title says it all really. They REDUCED payouts on races in an update to try to force microtransactions. It's like they hate their customers. Eff them.

Best of the series - just need B spec
martin-wamsler9 March 2022
This game is so polished and thoroughly following the old style of Gran Turismo. It gives me so much nostalgia having played this series for nearly 20 years. It's so good. Graphics, game mechanics, "story mode" adds up to a great experience complimented by a better than ever music score that combines old tunes with a twist of new music. 9/10 great game. If it gets b spec I'll rate it 10/10, I miss that mode...

Disappointing
Eric148913 March 2022
The series peaked with GT4. U fortunately the relay value on GT7 is very low. There's no way to sell cars, which was a huge part of previous games, and it basically just hands you cars for winning races.

You always start at the very back of all races so they're not actual races, rather games of catch-up. Graphically it's gorgeous, but there's more to games than just how they look. I hope they fix a LOT of these issues as the updates come out.

EDIT: They just reduced payouts for races to push microtransactions. Absolutely horrible from the bottom up.

A loveletter to car culture
dawid-per6 March 2022
**A disclaimer** I'm a hardcore PC simracing player. And it reflects on my thoughts here **

It's been almost 10 years since we've got full Gran Turismo experience. And I hate to say it - I'm slightly disappointed.

Not by content - there is a LOT of cars and activities.

When it comes to tracks it's not as good - stable selection of known tracks and way too many of imaginary ones that games tends to focus during single player campaign.

Missions, quests, licenses guide you towards progression that means new cars and track. And it is slow - after 20hrs in i'm still somewhere near the start. Of course game pushes microtransactions everywhere to remind you that it does not need to be that slow, and you can buy progress.

What is not really bad is that very often you are forced into worst possible car/track combo that is just not fun to drive. On top of that those involving "AI" are basically putting you in the end of an computer generated cars (it's not AI) that are glued to their line and don't react at all to your presence, so they end up being more of an annoyance than competition.

Multiplayer is still fun, just got turned into "find best combo of tuning parts for win" instead of be faster for win. Differences in cars are way bigger than what you will get using default setups vs custom ones in real simulators.

And what is worst - it's a failure in technical department - not graphics as those are excellent for console standards but all other aspects - want to change FOV? Forget about it - forced to sit really close to 75" TV and feel like a kid in a truck with everything out of scale and problems with judging distance and speed? Bad luck pal.

Want to adjust pedals deadzone? No way to do it.

Want to adjust details in forcefeedback? Nope Want to adjust wheel angle? Not even nope - even if you want to do it from the wheel itself on start of every race game will autoadjust to what you've set on a wheel making it virtually impossible to change.

Want to adjust UI so it does not burn out your OLED? Nah Want to move around UI elements so driver list does not impose on rear view mirror? Not here

So still a Gran Turismo game. Nothing more.

Online only and full of micro transactions
racer198017 March 2022
One of my favourite franchises but now has taken a few bad turns.

Online only now, and today all day server maintenance meant no one can play the game! Paid 100 pound for premium edition and I don't actually own anything!

Cars are priced too high and you end up buying credits with actual money!

Sad times, paying 100 quid for one game wasn't enough!

Driving in a dead world
tommyt-2535914 March 2022
It's another disappointing game in the GT franchise. When you start the game you have to watch 9 minutes of content before you can do anything. Another 30 minutes later you can buy a car and be finally on a road to drive. And then the final nail in the coffin is set. It's a dead world. You drive and you see nothing, the spectators are not animated, no birds are flying around or some animals on a field somewhere in the distance. No leafs that flying in the wind. The gras looks like a floor mat. No Sir, that graphics looks like 2015. When you drive the car, it's like driving a tank, there are many games where you feel that better. GT is just loosing it big, it's not even close to Forza Motorsport or Arsetto Corsa, even the new Grid is killing GT this time. Oh, what I totally forget, the music is unbelievable terrible. It's like an 90s arcade fighting game mixed with Nippon synthie pop and some classic. Just turn it off like I did.

Grind Turismo
jayrobinson-0595722 September 2023
Some cars are realisticly priced, with reasonable payouts for races - but most cars are unobtainable due to the insane pricing: I've seen up to 20 million credits (before modifications), against an average prize of under 100,000 credits for a race - that's 200 races (all wins and all 5 or 10 laps) for 1 car. Why is the pricing so bad? Microtransactions. At the time of writing, 2 million credits is £16, making 1 car a poultry £160. That means that the microtransactions aren't even micro - who is going to pay that in a game that you've had to pay to own? Everything about the sales sceme boggles my mind.

It's such a shame as the racing is good, and the modification system is interesting. Because there is so much focus on needing different cars you start to pay more attention to the unobtainable pricing than the racing and it absolutely ruins what could be a good game. I've tried grinding it out and got bored several times.

Cough up or Grind
benrowlinson10 February 2024
You buy an expensive cinema ticket, you sit down, and some guy sits himself down in the seat in front, wearing a stovepipe hat. You ask him politely if he wouldn't mind taking it off, but he refuses to do so unless you give him £16.99.

"Sir," you say, "unless you desist, I shall be obliged to call the manager."

"Sir," he repies, "I _am_ the manager."

It is difficult to imagine what Sony would have to do to recover the goodwill they've burned on this one. It really is that bad. It's in the category of the way you feel about Microsoft before you switch to Linux or MacOS, the way you feel about Autodesk before you switch to Blender, the way you feel about Unity before you switch to Godot Engine. I don't care if they're the only cinema in town showing They Finally Made a 2020s Movie A Person Might Conceivably Want to See. I'll give it a miss, cos at the time of writing this operation ain't gonna see a further red cent out of me.

Absolutely terrible all the way around
rllinlacs2 January 2023
Honestly I've written too much elsewhere to put a lot of effort here. There's too many negatives to list so I'll keep it short.

You have to be rich and have no job in order to enjoy this game. You have to spend thousands of hours, logging in and playing for hours a day to achieve any progress toward the things which are locked behind RNG mechanics, such as; certain cars which require invitations to buy, cars that cost millions upon millions of credits, which you can buy 2 million credits for $20, engine swaps which are locked behind roulette tickets which you rarely get, and then are locked to certain cars of which it does not tell you which, you have to rely on the community for information, then there's car parts locked behind roulette tickets which you can not get elsewhere. Then there's bugs, which make online play nearly impossible because the console freezes every time somebody; joins the lobby, leaves the lobby, enters the track, and leaves the track. Then there's no lobby host migration so as soon as the host leaves, everybody is kicked from the game. Car lights are bugged on tons of cars.

Basically there is no positive redeeming factor that makes this "game" worth playing. It's a credit card machine with built-in limitations made to make you spend money, and tons, tons, and tons of time if you want any chance at experiencing everything the "game" has to offer.

GO RETIRE KAZ!

GT7 VR
npvwrrdd15 March 2024
It's great. VR is the only way to play it. Once you go VR. You can't go back. It's an amazing experience to actually be in the car. It's a much more realistic experience. I find that I can find the braking points so much easier with depth added. And now. I really know what it's like in my favourite supercar. A few tracks are missing though. I would like Silverstone to be added. So if you really want to appreciate this game. Get a vr headset.

What I don't like is every race, unless a custom race, you start from the back. It's still fun, but it's more catchup. Why they've never added qualifying. I don't know.
