Is it just me or was this one shorter than usual?

It was an odd experience watching "Suicide Song of Lovers". It seemed to be over so quickly. Either it was shorter than normal or I'm losing my mind (again). My daughters would say it was the latter!

This episode is set during snowy weather. There is ANOTHER blind person in this episode--a shamisen player who has an interesting past. It seems she was the lover of a man of much higher social status. She got pregnant and caused the child to be aborted to spare the man embarrassment. But the man has followed her and won't leave her...and his family is going to try to make make sure this lady dies in order to free him.

This episode left a lot of unanswered questions--such as who is this lady's friend. It also seemed to resolve itself in an unsatisfying way. Overall, a rather weak and forgettable episode.

Warning: Spoilers
Only one sword fight and it's at the end - good fight though. The episode plays out pretty slowly, makes you wonder why no one has frostbite with the constant snow and ice, and very little winter gear!

I like these types of episodes though, not the usual gambling-prostitution-kill thirty people episode. In the end, the stalker and the stalkee commit suicide and the lady's friend, the man's father, wife, baby and Zatoichi discover. Bitter sweet because you think he understands that no matter how he feels about his true love, he needs to be a parent to his baby. But alas, no.
