Brilliant series about desperate writers
JonathanWalford4 February 2017
This series is a comedy/drama/thriller that follows two writers of a night time soap about the criminal and legal worlds. The writers decide they need to get more first-hand experience to inspire them to write a second season and end up embroiled in the criminal underworld.

Don't let the fact that this is a Canadian production and in French deter you from seeing this series - it is one of the best Canadian television series ever made (although Schitt's Creek and Corner Gas are great too.) Even though this is in French, it is still great with English subtitles. I am not fluent and had to read the subtitles (except when they swore -- that I know in French...) and it was great!

(Added November 2018) Season 2 is not as good as season 2, but still worth watching (maybe a 7/10). You will have to see season 1 to understand who all the characters are and plot.)

One of the best Canadian T.V. Shows.

Warning: Spoilers
MILD SPOILERS

I honestly didn't expect much. I saw the description on Netflix and was interested, but I was worried it would turn out bad. I was wrong.

This show is about two screenwriters Denis(François Létourneau) and Patrick(Vincent-Guillaume Otis) who make a crap crime shows, and it isn't very well received, but is watched by many. They still get a second season for their show. In order to improve their T.V. show, they must experience what the main characters of their T.V. show experience. And the more they do that, the more they get involved with the crime syndicates of Quebec.

Series Noire started out slow. Just showing the relationships of Denis and his Wife, Edith, and Patrick with his girlfriend, Lea. Both Edith and Lea aren't fans of the shows, so that makes some pretty funny conversations.

The chemistry between Denis and Patrick is perfect. It's even better then Walter White and Jesse from Breaking Bad. Patrick always give crap about Denis and his wife, but he always has to put up with Denis. They have some of the best moments in this entire show.

The screenwriter duo isn't just what makes the show perfect. Some of the side characters are quite fantastic. Edith (who is every episode now that I think of it) is brilliantly portrayed. Marc Arcand is one of the coolest characters on the Silver Screen. Jean-Guy is a perfect blend of lovable and despicable. Every single actor and actress did their job well.

The dialogue is amazingly and creatively written, and that is another huge reason why this show is great. Some of the jokes wouldn't have been funny, because then mood or scene wasn't funny. But the script of the show makes it funny. For example, when Denis finds out his wife is not only a lesbian, but she is cheating on him, with her best friend. It was supposed to bring you down, and make you feel sad for Denis. Instead of doing that, he takes of his shirt and try to sleep with Edith and her friend. It didn't work.

I only have one problem with this show, and it is a nitpick more than anything. At the end of each episode (except for the last one) there is a NEXT TIME ON... You can skip this if you are on Netflix, but it is kinda annoying. Other than that, you will enjoy this show. So glad they are making season 2!!

Since BBad season 2, i didn't focused on a TV show so quickly - maybe the wire & Battlestar since BTW-

I had to e honest, my fantasy is to be a TV show's writer, but still. This TV show is f word linking virtually & reality; (really placed in abeam as Don Quichotte if you read it)

I never saw a scene witch can have dramatic tension, & a comic gasoline in the same time)

A character made me literally have(and have no shame to tell it for this show) some tears : Marc Hercand when he says episode 9 ......."Il n'y a pas De difference between Lui et Moi".

After 2 EPA. & only 2 days in Québec, it was in my top 3, between Oz; Breaking Bad; The Wire;; after episode 3, it was definitely my number one until the end.

Decent Show

This is a decent show. There's good acting in it and some good darkly comic moments too. Story could be better and it kind of goes off the rails a bit by the end.
