Warning: Spoilers
I would say that this movie is more of a mystery than horror. The actors and actresses did pretty well. Cherie Gil nailed it and I loved her monologue.

The opening scene showed the siblings fighting over a decision that they have to make. Their argument was intense and realistic. I got to relate to this scene whenever there's a dying relative. Brothers and sisters fight bringing out the worst in them.

The opening scene was a snippet.

The next scenes were shrouded with suspense, a child looking out to the house's balusters and a creepy music is played at the background. A Villareal brother who saw a blood like writing on the wall of his room. Ladies dressed in black who will be praying for the Villareal's sick mother, a prominent person in Negros.

It then shows the different siblings, how they interacted with each other. It showed their differences, what they liked about each other, what they hated about each other and how they try to get along despite their differences. They were eventually united by their father's song.

The drama was intense. The conflict between the siblings, the extended family, cousins, uncles etc, and even the society they lived in were portrayed.

Just like any prominent people, there are those who worshiped them and there are those who hated them.

And the one's who hated them didn't like the inheritance to be passed on any of the children.

The sibling's eventually could not decide where the inheritance would go among them. All of them had their reasons for not accepting it. In the end, their mother was the one who chose for them.

The question is why doesn't one of them want the inheritance? When we all know that inheritance is what causes siblings to fight after the death of their parents.

It's a wonderful twist based on a famous Filipino folklore. Watch it to find out.

Meh...

Well mama wasn't what I call a horror, if I'm honest I was quite bored watching it, I like horrors that use amazing camera angles and suspense to capture you and make you sit on the end of your seat think "OMG what's going to happen next" I'm afraid mama just didn't do that for me, don't get me wrong it was a good movie for what it's worth, I do have to say there was a few movie mistakes in it, every time it was meant to be dark at night, it was always light outside through the windows and that just really bugged me, I wasn't too badly directed, I didn't really like the ending if I'm honest just sort of ended and that was it, this isn't one of my best reviews, if you've never seen this film, don't prepare yourself for a A class horror, is more of a C class horror, the sorta horror that you'd watch while eating your tea or something like that... all in all meh not bad
