VERY INTERESTING! Shows each side of the cases... Both the defense and the prosecution.
wadegunter23 February 2019
I've ALWAYS been fascinated with true crime and what life would be like to be in prison or death row. This show combines it all. It tells the story of the crime, gives the death row inmate's take, and then let's the prosecution and defense explain their sides. I hear other reviews on here complaining that Susan Sarandon is narrating it. I couldn't care less. Kermit the Frog could narrate it. I'm interested in the substance of the narration, not the voice. This show is extremely factual. It let's you decide what side you're on.

Death Row Sentencing on Trail

Like the way it's being presented. You are able to view and hear about how the conviction occurred. You are also presented with all sides including the victims. Which is not only the person convicted of the crime but also the family and friends left behind to seek justice.

Yes, biased

The show is decent but would be much better if it isn't biased towards the wronged inmate. Police and a handful of defense lawyers are portrayed as the bad.

Shocking truth about American judicial system
O-Ati12 February 2023
We need to have laws to protect people regardless of their race, ethnicity and financial standing.

The judicial system has repeatedly failed people of colour and minorities.

People have been executed for crimes they didn't commit.

People have been forced to confess to crime they didn't commit.

We must end the capital punishment if we want to be a first world country.

There's so much wrong with the system that a few short documentaries here and there not going to do justice.

We have to treat people as a humanly as possible regardless of our biases.

An Extremely powerful documentary. We all have to stay educated about this topic.

Cue the magic necklace
ethertapping1 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
As soon as the show talked about Darlie Routier's necklace being embedded in her neck wound, it was obvious that the show was going to be a waste of time. Pro-Darlie propaganda is presented without question or regard to facts.

Couldn't stomach it
SirHenry10 May 2022
Watched one episode (ep 7) and couldn't stomach the rest.

Woman raped and murdered, along with her child.

Prime suspect looks clearly guilty.

He is described as a lovely man, family man, etc throughout.

Years later: DNA evidence from the rape kit... it's him.

He now changes his story and tries to state that he had consensual sex with her but never killed her - disgusting and disgraceful.

Talking heads: I still think he is innocent.

Blimey. I've seen enough.

The show is that biased that they could portray the Devil as innocent.

Virtually no coverage of the lives ended, often horrifically, but these murderers
VoyagerMN19868 October 2018
I have to say that every human being can be portrayed sympathetically, even the most vile, brutal people who dismember children for fun, callously knife to death women, and commit the most heinous crimes, if you do no more than a quick drive-by of their actual crime.

You literally could put Stalin, Pol Pot, Hitler, or Mao on this show the way the presentations are done, and have people saying: "Oh they were not so bad."

Also the one case I watched were doubt was cast on the conviction, there was no mention that the death row inmate had a prior second degree murder (pled down from first) and a prior manslaughter pled down from first/second murder. The implication by leaving out that fact was this was some kind of good guy who may have been the victim of a miscarriage of justice -- when his hyper violent priors show he was an unmitigated and habitually lethally violent : "super predator."

Really people on death row are "repentant" -- and that is a surprise? What does it mean when a 40 year old kidnaps, brutally rapes and sodomizes and then and beats to death a 14 year old girl and is "repentant" as his penalty awaits?

I can't listen to the narrator
catherineoutlaw8 April 2018
This show airs on HLN after Forensic Files, of which I'm an avid viewer. As soon as one show ends, the other begins, with the awful narration by S.S. She is too difficult to listen to, her distinct voice a forever awful reminder of her spewing deplorable lies in 2016. She needs to go away. I will never watch or listen to anything she's involved with again. All of my family and friends feel the same way.

A hard no.

Racist, lying and completely wrong. Sad to see criminals being portrayed as something they're not. Take responsibility for your own actions and you won't end up on death row. Period.

Susan Sarandon's voice is like nails on a chalk board
kannbigbie3 February 2022
Worst narration ever. Cannot even watch the series, she is that awful. Why on earth would she get a role such as this? Content may be good and worth watching; however, I can't get past her horrible voice.
