- Agent Eric Koenig: You wash up on a deserted island alone. Sitting on the sand is a box. What is in that box?
- Melinda May: Machete.
- Antoine Triplett: A sat phone so I can call someone to get me off that island.
- Leo Fitz: How big is the box?
- Agent Eric Koenig: Just say the first answer that comes into your mind. What's in that box?
- Leo Fitz: Simmons.
- Jemma Simmons: That's a hard one. Let me think. The Tardis.
- Skye: I want to say my laptop, fully charged. But I don't want to seem subversive - with the Rising Tide and all...
- Agent Eric Koenig: You're over-thinking it.
- Skye: The laptop would be stupid, anyway. There's no wi-fi.
- Phil Coulson: Marcus Daniels was an assistant at a physics lab where they were trying to harness the electrical power of something called "Darkforce". And nothing bad ever happens when you work with something called "Darkforce."
- Phil Coulson: I gave Daniels to S.H.I.E.L.D. to rehabilitate him. Turns out, they just gave him an upgrade.
- Leo Fitz: Well, I mean, there's a slight chance he would absorb the energy and gain more power, but it's unlikely.
- Phil Coulson: Who did you say created this technology, again?
- Leo Fitz: Bruce Banner.
- Phil Coulson: Then I'm sure it'll go off without a hitch.
- Agent Eric Koenig: What's the difference between an egg and a rock?
- Melinda May: Edible. Not.
- Jemma Simmons: Well, that's absurd. The differences are innumerable.
- Leo Fitz: If you want, I can start listing them, but then we'll be here all day.
- Agent Eric Koenig: The NSA. You want to hack the NSA? That's a bad idea, Skye. That's a terrible idea. The NSA's already got S.H.I.E.L.D. on its watch list. Why poke the bear - the big, scary, waterboarding bear?
- Agent Eric Koenig: You wash up on a deserted island alone. Sitting on the sand is a box. What is in that box?
- Grant Ward: It would depend on the island. Where it is, how big, what's the terrain? Is there fresh water?
- Agent Eric Koenig: Just say the first thing that comes into your head.
- Grant Ward: A pistol.
- Agent Eric Koenig: Just gonna need you guys to answer a few questions, a few psychoanalytic, non sequitur questions.
- Phil Coulson: A lie detector.
- Agent Eric Koenig: *The* lie detector, Agent Coulson. This baby measures galvanic skin response, oxygen consumption, micro-expressions, biofeedback brain waves, pupil dilation, voice biometrics - 96 variables in all. Fury designed this himself. He wanted a lie detector Romanoff couldn't beat.
- Grant Ward: Did she?
- Agent Eric Koenig: [scoffs] Like Fury would tell!
- Lian May: You can call anybody you like. Why me?
- Melinda May: I needed someone I can trust.
- Lian May: That bad, huh?
- Phil Coulson: Skye, I need you on threat assessment. Pull up a list of all the inmates at the Fridge. I want to know just how bad this is.
- Skye: This is really, really bad. Quinn is the least scary of the bunch, and he shot me - twice.
- Phil Coulson: Quinn's more a sociopath. A lot of those inmates are full-blown psychopaths - Violent, impulsive.
- Skye: And some with superpowers. Lovely.
- Phil Coulson: I assume the prisoners are no longer prisoners.
- Skye: So... Ian Quinn...
- Grant Ward: I'm sorry. He's out. They all are.
- Leo Fitz: And Garrett? Did he get away?
- Grant Ward: Couldn't stop him taking The Fridge, but I wasn't gonna let Garrett walk... Not after what he did.
- Skye: Is he the one who did this to you?
- Grant Ward: He was a tough son of a bitch.
- Melinda May: "Was? Past tense?
- Grant Ward: Soon as I had the upper hand, I put two in the back of his head.
- Leo Fitz: Good.
- Grant Ward: One from me... One from you.
- Antoine Triplett: I would have emptied the mag.
- Lian May: You're not gonna take her out, are you?
- Melinda May: No, mom, I just wanna talk.
- Lian May: Good. I've always liked Maria.
- Agent Eric Koenig: No, you're not. Absolutely not. You can't leave. There are protocols.
- Phil Coulson: Since the entire's agency pretty much collapsed, maybe now is not the time to stand on protocol.
- Agent Eric Koenig: Fine. Forget protocols. What part of "secret base" don't you get? Fury said to let you in, and you show up with a bunch of people?
- Phil Coulson: Agents!
- Agent Eric Koenig: Whatever. The point is, they know what this place is now, and *I* don't know them.
- Phil Coulson: Hydra just released the entire population of The Fridge into the wild. There's gonna be violence. People will die. And I still consider it my duty to be the shield that protects them.
- Agent Eric Koenig: Moving speech, truly. But nobody leaves until they go through orientation.
- Agent Eric Koenig: Agent Ward, why are you really here?
- Grant Ward: Skye. Came back for her. I want to spend time with her.
- Agent Eric Koenig: Skye? Cool.
- Melinda May: We have to go.
- Lian May: Five hundred miles.
- Melinda May: What?
- Lian May: Five hundred miles and I don't even get a "thank you".
- Melinda May: I was just about to...
- Lian May: It's too late.
- Melinda May: Thank you.
- Lian May: I said too late.
- Agent Eric Koenig: What is your first name?
- Skye: Skye.
- Agent Eric Koenig: And what is your last name?
- Skye: Only name. No family. No family name to inherit.
- Agent Eric Koenig: You have yourself the name Skye?
- Skye: Well, the name they gave me at the orphanage was Mary Sue Poots, so...
- Agent Eric Koenig: When we were kids, my brother would and I used to give each other nicknames. He called me Lightning Foot.
- Phil Coulson: You're safe. I'm still here. I promise. I'm still here with you.
- Audrey Nathan: [Semi-conscious] Phil...
- Skye: If that's how you felt, you had a funny way to show it.
- Grant Ward: Specialists don't spend time with a lot of people. The ones we do, we're all cut from the same cloth.
- Skye: Black Kevlar?
- Melinda May: I remember when you brought Daniels in. I know how personal this is for you, but...
- Phil Coulson: We don't do personal... not anymore.
- Melinda May: Phil, the polygraph cleared me. I'm not hiding anything.
- Phil Coulson: You mean you're not hiding *anything* else, unless you *do* know who was behind the Tahiti project.
- Melinda May: I didn't ask. I was ordered not to. And you would have done the same thing. Our job is to follow orders.
- Phil Coulson: It's also our job to determine right from wrong. Watching someone in agony, searching for the truth, not saying anything - that's wrong.
- Melinda May: Look, I was just trying...
- Phil Coulson: And don't tell me it's because you care so damn much. Fury's no longer around telling you what to do, so why are you here? You want some orders to follow? Follow mine, or find somewhere else to be.
- Phil Coulson: Mr. Daniels, we don't want to hurt you. We need to take you in, for your safety and the safety of others.
- Marcus Daniels: It was you! You took me there! They did things to me there!
- Phil Coulson: They were trying to contain you.
- Marcus Daniels: No! They were trying to make me stronger. And they did.
- Phil Coulson: Yeah, we're safe here. But what about everyone else? The people that don't happen to have access to a top secret, underground shelter? What about them? I don't know if it's wise, but it's right. I'm taking a team, and that's the end of it.
- Antoine Triplett: We're going to keep you safe.
- Audrey Nathan: "We," meaning the CIA?
- Jemma Simmons: Of course. That's what I said, isn't it? We're the CIA. The Central Intelligence Agency... people.
