Sex & Nudity

  • You may come across a poster with a woman in a yellow bikini, also one of the zombies have just a bra and a skirt. Some Female zombies wear skirts.
  • The quartermaster at the tower jokingly says to the player character that maybe he'll find a woman to keep him warm at night.

Violence & Gore

  • Not as graphic as call Normal zombie games.
  • Game doesn't need to be played with firearms and can be played only with melee combat.
  • Depending on different weapons you have equipped with you, changes the significance of damage. If you have a more powerful weapon, you can easily slice or blow enemies heads and body parts, leaving blood and guts hanging out. There are a certain type of zombie that explodes when they come near to you, which sprays blood and gore everywhere.
  • Violence is graphic but not very realistic
  • The story of 'Dying Light' progresses as the player (character-Crane) completes missions for the survivors, using a variety of melee weapons such as axes, baseball bats and grenades to defeat zombies and enemies and complete objectives.
  • Crane can also undertake optional quests such as retrieval and scouting missions to gain points that can be spent on upgrading his skills. The player can also earn points through frequent use of parkour manoeuvres and combat encounters to improve Crane's movement and combat abilities.
  • Violence in the game is very fake, with fun combat sequences that include some blood.
  • When sneaking up on zombies the player can execute stealth to knock out zombies.
  • When fighting hostile survivors, the protagonist kills them in the same ways as zombies.

Profanity

  • There is strong coarse language in the game, where the expletives 'motherf**ker', 'f**k' and its variations can be heard during dialogue and combat sequences.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • At one point, Rahim is seen to be intoxicated.
  • Alcohol can be picked up as a crafting ingredient.
  • Cigarettes can be found. However, they can only be sold as a valuable to vendors and can't be smoked.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Not as scary as it sounds. This warning is mainly for players who wear headphones.
  • At one point in "The Following" you may come across a body wrapped in cloth with on eye on the head, and the chest is ripped open with internal organs, guts, and blood on the ground with his ribcage and flesh visible, seeming to be a ritualistic sacrifice.
  • You come across many bodies that are ripped up, bloody, or being actively eaten by a zombie.
  • Virals and volatiles (infected that only appear at night) can chase after players and climb buildings. The volatiles can be incredibly frightening when they appear out of nowhere.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • You have to kill Jade by snapping her neck after she is turned into a zombie. Nothing is shown this is all off camera.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A fictional drug called 'Antizin' is used to help suppress the virus. One mission tasks you to stop a criminal who is making fake Antizin, which doesn't work and makes people very sick.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The deaths of Jade and Rahim are quite sad.
  • There is a side quest where you explore a creepy apartment looking for a boys father and dog, once you find them there is human body parts cut up and the dead dog with his guts out and you have an encounter with a crazy cannibal. Extremely disturbing for a zombie game that otherwise isn't super scary but this side quest is scarier than anything in the main game.
