There's something really funny about people who put together a militia determined to overthrow (or in this case succeed from) a country. They're usually simpletons with access to guns or carryover burn out bikers who have a beef with government in general. Such is the case for Lowell and his merrymen of militia makers who decide they'd rather declare independence from the state. Lowell, played deadpan funny by actor Harris Doran is the Moe to the other stooges, Aloysius (another funny oddball Michael Barra) and Jim Burd (Rick Montgomery). Their initial takeover of a house in the middle of nowhere draws the attention of the police who had been chasing them for a gun possession charge. Upset at what they feel is a slight by government, they declare themselves independents which draws the law down on them. Also sends out crazy waves to crazy militia people. So in lies the meat of the idea. Well, if you leave the state, you have to have laws and rules and...it all gets too dense. This film simplifies it through Lowell's chicanery and overzealous need to...be his own country. But first he has to get past the local sheriff.

I caught myself laughing a LOT of times. The idea is so absurd, yet everyone plays it so real. The people who answer the call of independence are truly REAL characters. They seem so earnest in their quest. It seems like grown up men playing cowboys and indians.

It's a fun watch and I really recommend this film. Lot of fun.
