Execrable Science and Film-making
As a physicist and found-footage fan, I was naturally curious about this film. What a dire disappointment then this was.

A title card which gives two highly misleading definitions of physics terms is followed by a jumbled sequence of pictures and video snippets which I guess is supposed to convey a sense of chaos, doom and dread. That is, in turn, followed by a hokey voice-over narration covering late 20th century events that mixes fact and fiction.

Once the film proper begins, it is hard to believe the atrocious dialogue and amateur cinematography. Physicists would never talk like these characters, and I suspect the film-makers did not consult with real physics students, let alone physicists. I gather they just wanted to have another excuse for some kind of monster story that could be given the veneer of physics.

This is one of very few movies (out of thousands) I could not finish, because I could find nothing redeemable in it.

Avoid.

Worst Movie Ever

A 7.2/10 star rating? Are you kidding me? I only gave it one star because I can't give it zero stars. My friends and I made better movies on an ancient VHS camcorder when we were 12 years old. What a piece of crap. Save yourself. Run away. Far away.

I wanted to like this, but . . .

Warning: Spoilers
This film started in a promising way. Scientists investigating time travel, identify Montauk as a place of extraordinary and unusual "energy," a man who looks like he's in his early 40s and claims that he's actually 80, because he was subjected to a time-travel experiment; then a mysterious Native American who tells some story about how they need to be careful.

After that, the plot devolves rapidly. Strange unexplained phenomena (which remain unexplained), a trip in a secret bunker in near darkness, something in the dark who does something to most of the characters. No explanation why; no real reveal; nothing. Then the last character (who thinks that running away from the scene with the lights of her camera on is a good way to avoid detection) has something happen to her too. Something bad. Maybe something fatal.

I tried, I really tried, to like this movie, but by the time I'd finished the first hour, gave up and just watched the rest, knowing that I wouldn't ever figure it out.

A Generous 2 Stars

My God this movie was annoying. From the scattergun opening sequence to the predictable ending. The characters, particularly the male ones, were unlikeable and obnoxious.

And, as I have found with many of these low budget found footage movies, absolutely nothing of interest happens until the last 10 minutes. Most of the movie is taken up with the characters arguing and shouting at each other and making bad decisions.

The opening premise of the story involves a group of scientists researching the possibility of time travel, particularly involving the Philadelphia Experiment and the HMS Eldridge.

However, this is mostly forgotten as they head off on a trip to a remote government research facility in an attempt to save their funding. All in all, a waste of time.
