There are few things more fascinating than abandoned cities and writer-director Luke Jaden also believes this as he uses abandoned buildings in Detroit to create the setting of his short film King Ripple. It's a story about a young man with the power of a god who just wants to be left alone in his empty city. When you have the power of a god and want to be left alone, that often results in just killing everyone who is near you. It follows a group of kids who want to see if the story of King Ripple is true.
King Ripple is played by Keith Stanfield who was in Get Out as the dinner party guest who freaks out when he's photographed. The short is fascinating, with its narration and the stoic aura of the titular King Ripple. Check it out.

Check out another short film from Michigan native Luke Jaden (earlier this week, we featured "The Neverlands" starring Langston Fishburne, Son of Laurence Fishburne; and ‘Wolf Who Cried Boy’ starring Barkhad Abdi and Dwight Henry); this one is titled "King Ripple," and stars other names you'd be familiar with, like Keith Stanfield, as well as Torrey Wigfield, Allie DeBerry, newcomer Callaghan Belle, and Luke Jaden himself. The film is described as a "post-apocalyptic, tension-flaring, tale of trepidation," that "follows four teenagers as they travel into a desolate and decrepit urban wasteland brought forth by the very being...

Read More: How This Teenager Landed an Oscar-Nominated Actor to Star in His Film Despite being a teenager, Luke Jaden's fourth film, "King Ripple," completed filming this year. What's more, Jaden will star in the short alongside Keith Stanfield ("Short Term "12" and Snoop Dogg in "Straight Outta Compton"), who will portray the titular super-being. While the trailer isn't entirely clear on plot, it's heavy on atmosphere. From the first shot of a floating bathtub to the fact that everything takes place in some urban wasteland, a good amount of focus was put on making the short surreal. A flash of a bloodied woman certainly hints at horror elements too. Check out the trailer above. The rise of digital filmmaking has likely directly contributed to the dip in age of widely exposed filmmakers. It’s likely many of us were shooting Diy horror as kids, but not to the effect and level we’ve seen from Emily Hagins, Emily Diprimio, Kansas Bowling or Luke Jaden. The latter, an eighteen years-old actor, has…
