- On his 30th birthday, Tom Fassaert receives a mysterious invitation from his 95-year-old grandmother Marianne to come visit her in South Africa. At that time, the only thing he knows about her are the myths and predominantly negative stories his father told him. She was a femme fatale who went through countless men, a famous model in the 1950s, and a mother that put her two sons into a children's home. Fassaert decides to accept her invitation. But when his grandmother makes an unexpected confession, his venture becomes much more complicated than he could ever have imagined.
- Tom, the filmmaker, receives a letter from South Africa. His long forgotten 95-year old grandmother Mariann, asks him to come and help her with her will. Tom sets off to South Africa and decides to bring his camera. This starts a journey for the filmmaker and his grandmother, looking back at her life and trying to understand his own. Through the eyes and the stories of his grandmother he realizes what happened to his father and uncle, whom she placed in an orphanage when they were kids, to pursue her own life and dreams. When the old lady wants to reunite with her relatives in The Netherlands for the very last time, Tom realizes that they are not sharing her illusion of being one big happy family. Over the years, issues have risen, and no one dares to start dealing with it. As the Grandmother gets closer to her grandson Tom, the love she feels for him turns into erotic obsession. Setting limits towards the old lady gets more and more difficult for the filmmaker, he starts to get drawn into her net. When Tom starts opening the Pandoras box, of hidden family issues, the film turns into a personal nightmare for the filmmaker, who so desperately wants to reconcile the family members to once and for all become one happy family.
