As director Patty Jenkins confirms that Wonder Woman 3 was axed by Warner Bros, co-star Chris Pine has expressed his befuddlement at the decision.
Director Patty Jenkins, who made 2017’s Wonder Woman and its 2020 sequel Wonder Woman 1984, has confirmed that the third film in the series is essentially dead. And with the whole DC Universe now in the process of being rebooted by James Gunn, it’s likely that the whole timeline (and its characters) established by Jenkins has come to an end.
Chris Pine, who co-starred as dashing pilot Steve Trevor in Jenkins’ movies, has expressed his amazement that Warner Bros didn’t proceed with Wonder Woman 3 – a project Jenkins worked on for at least a few months before it was cancelled in December 2022.
“I’m stunned that they said no to a billion-dollar franchise and decided to pivot elsewhere,” Pine said in an interview with Business Insider (via...

Patty Jenkins discusses the end of one project and the beginning of another as she gives an update on the status of her planned Star Wars movie.
Ever since the release of Wonder Woman 1984 back in 2020, Patty Jenkins has jumped from blockbuster project to blockbuster project, but without ever getting to the point of actually entering production. As such, we’re now four years on from the release of that film and Jenkins is still developing films to make.
While we’re hoping that her career doesn’t undergo a 14 year movie directing hiatus like the gap that exists on her filmography between 2003’s Monster and 2017’s Wonder Woman, it has been four years now where she’s moved from project to project as the tectonic plates of Hollywood have continually shifted beneath her.
There was a Cleopatra project with Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot that Jenkins was set to direct.

Chris Pine is shocked Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman” franchise is dead. The actor recently spoke to Business Insider while promoting his feature directorial debut “Poolman” and said he’s struggling to understand how Warner Bros. could pull the plug on a franchise that grossed the studio nearly $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
“I’m stunned that they said no to a billion-dollar franchise and decided to pivot elsewhere,” Pine said. “I don’t know what the reasoning was behind that; it’s above my pay grade, but Wonder Woman is an incredible character; Patty is such a thoughtful director.”
Pine starred as Steve Trevor opposite Gal Gadot’s “Wonder Woman” in two Warner Bros. comic book tentpoles directed by Jenkins: 2017’s “Wonder Woman” and 2022’s “Wonder Woman 1984.” The director was developing a third movie for Gadot’s superhero when DC Studios brought in James Gunn and Peter Safran as its new leaders.

Gal Gadot might have replaced Lynda Carter as the iconic superhero Wonder Woman, but Carter will forever be remembered for the role. Known best for the role as well as her advocacy for many crucial causes, the actress and singer returned to the land of DC in Wonder Woman 2.

Needless to say, fans were elated to have her, even though it was Gadot who donned the lasso of truth. Slated to appear in a third part as well, the threequel has been long dead. And while there has been no news of the character in James Gunn’s version of DC, Carter made some bold claims about Diana Prince which James Gunn should address soon to avoid any controversy.

David Ayer is following up the success of The Beekeeper with a new dramatic thriller from producer Damien Chazelle.
Ayer is set to direct Paramount Pictures’ Heart of the Beast from a script by Cameron Alexander. The feature, which has been in development since 2017, follows a former Navy Seal and his combat dog amid their attempt to find civilization after getting stranded deep in the Alaskan terrain.
Producers include Chazelle and Olivia Hamilton of Wild Chickens Productions, in addition to Ayer and Chris Long of Cedar Park Entertainment.
Ayer most recently helmed Amazon MGM Studios’ The Beekeeper, the Jason Statham-led thriller that surpassed $150 million at the global box office. The filmmaker, who wrote Training Day and worked on the script for The Fast and the Furious, has previously directed Fury, Suicide Squad and Bright.

It was the year 2017, and fans of the Dceu finally had a movie that not only met expectations, but exceeded them. Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot, and directed by Patty Jenkins, became one of the best movies under the banner, and gained the highest score on Rotten Tomatoes, a feat it has maintained even today. It spawned a sequel – Wonder Woman 1984, but unfortunately, it failed to hold on to the success of its predecessor.

Patty Jenkins, who directed the two Wonder Woman movies in the Dceu, reveals one disappointing update for the fans who were thinking about the third installment in the film series. Meanwhile, she has confirmed that she’s back to working on Rogue Squadron now.
Gal Gadot in and as Wonder Woman
Patty Jenkins’ 2017 film starring Gal Gadot as the DC superhero Wonder Woman was a box office hit, prompting a sequel, which was released in 2020. However, the sequel could not perform as expected as the movie only managed to gross $166 million worldwide (per The Numbers) against a production budget of $200 million.

“Rogue Squadron” may not be dead after all, but according to Patty Jenkins, “Wonder Woman 3” (or another “Wonder Woman” movie in the new Dcu) certainly is. On TCM‘s “Talking Pictures” podcast, the director confirmed she’s done making “Wonder Woman” movies for DC. “Yeah, for the time being, or easily forever,” she said, reiterating, “Easily forever, yeah.”

Patty Jenkins’ “Star Wars” movie “Rogue Squadron” might not be dead after all. The project, centered on fighter pilots in the “Star Wars” universe, was first announced at the end of 2020 and was put on the calendar for a December 2023 theatrical release. By September 2022, however, Disney had pulled the title from its release schedule. Variety reported last May that “Rogue Squadron” was no longer in active development at Lucasfilm.
In a new interview on the “Talking Pictures” podcast, Jenkins announced that she is now once again in development on the script for “Rogue Squadron” following the dissolution of her planned “Wonder Woman 3” at Warner Bros. and DC Studios. Variety has reached out to Lucasfilm for comment.
“When I left ‘Star Wars’ to do ‘Wonder Woman 3,’ and I started working on that, we talked about, ‘Well, maybe I’ll come back to “Star Wars” after “Wonder Woman 3,”‘ so we started a deal for that to happen,...

Though it was originally announced to much excitement back in 2020 as part of Disney's big Investor Day that year, the plan for Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins to craft Star Wars: Rogue Squadron has since been stalled in a development hanger, and was removed from the studio's release schedule two years later. Yet now, according to Jenkins, things might just be moving again.
Appearing on the Talking Pictures podcast (as reported by IGN), Jenkins revealed that since a third outing for Wonder Woman with Gal Gadot in the role no longer appears to be happening under James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC movie/TV universe, the director's schedule is open for a potential return to the Star Wars galaxy.

Patty Jenkins became really famous when she decided to direct a ‘Wonder Woman’ movie for the Dceu. The movie was a huge success and got Jenkins the record for the biggest opening weekend for a movie directed by a woman. Soon after, she said she was going to direct ‘Wonder Woman 2,’ but she almost left the project because she wasn’t happy with the pay offer from Warner Bros. (WB).
‘Wonder Woman 1984’ was supposed to come out in the U.S. on June 5, 2020, but was delayed to December 25, 2020, because of the Covid-19 pandemic. It was first planned to release on November 1, 2019, but when it finally came out, it got mixed reviews and didn’t make much money. This is seen by some as the start of a downhill trend. Following the huge financial disappointment of 2022’s Babylon, Damien Chazelle states that he’s not even sure if his next script will get made.
Damien Chazelle is at an interesting point in his career. Up until 2022’s Babylon, everything the director’s previous three films had earned critical plaudits or made lots of cash. In the case of Whiplash and La La Land, those two films did both and solidified Chazelle’s reputation as one of a handful of directors set to revive Hollywood’s output and lead a new generation of American filmmakers.
However, the last few years have seen something of a bump in the road for Chazelle.
Following his Oscar for Best Director in the wake of La La Land, Chazelle has made 2018’s First Man and then 2022’s Babylon. The former didn’t exactly set the box office on fire but it did enough, and picked up some critical praise.

Having delivered acclaimed gems including La La Land, First Man, and Whiplash, Damien Chazelle was given a huge budget and full creative control for Babylon. While the director didn’t compromise his vision for the film and delivered what he set out to make, the underwhelming returns at the box office have now created concerns for his next feature.
Opposed to its budget of $80 million, Babylon only managed to rack in $15 million domestically, becoming a major flop for Paramount. The acclaimed director is now unsure whether his next project will see the end of the tunnel or not, as fans come forward to express their love for Babylon.

As Damien Chazelle’s follow-up to First Man and short-lived Best Picture winner La La Land, buzz was loud over Babylon. With a cast of Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, a story centering around the dawn of Hollywood’s sound age and a budget north of $80 million, it had everything going for it. And then it made just over $3.5 million on opening weekend, killing both the movie and showing that its wunderkind director – who was the youngest Best Director winner ever at 32 – was fallible. Now, as he works on his next project, Chazelle has a realistic perspective that it will be a long time before he’s trusted with so much money.
Speaking on TCM’s Talking Pictures podcast, Chazelle said he’s staying active post-Babylon but may have to scale down this production. “I’ve been head in the sand. I’ve been sort of busy writing. So...

Any movie starring Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie is expected to be a box-office hit considering their reputation in the Hollywood entertainment industry. Pitt might have started his acting career much before Robbie, but the actress has proved her proficiency as a performer time and time again.

As they say in Hollywood quite often, “Who knew?”
Take the 2022 film Babylon. It had Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt starring, and Oscar-winning La La Land writer/director Damien Chazelle handling that end.
Then it went out and did just $15 million domestically against an $80 million budget. Reviews were mixed. No awards were given.
Chazelle knows that having Babylon on his resume isn’t going to help funding for future projects, as he noted during TCM’s Talking Pictures podcast.
“Certainly, in financial terms, Babylon didn’t work at all,” Chazelle said. “You try to not have that effect what you’re doing creatively, but, at some level, it can’t help but affect it. But maybe that’s Ok? I have a very mixed mind about it. Who knows. Maybe I won’t be able to get this one made. I have no idea. We’ll have to wait and see.

About a decade ago, Damien Chazelle was Hollywood’s hottest young filmmaker. His indie hit “Whiplash” made tens of millions of dollars in profit and earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. He followed it up with “La La Land,” which earned hundreds of millions in profit and made him the youngest Best Director Oscar winner ever at age 32. He was riding high. But what goes up must come down.
His next film, 2018’s “First Man,” underperformed at the box office and the Oscars. And 2022’s “Babylon” was an outright flop, losing money, winning no Academy Awards, and earning mixed reviews from critics and a fair amount of derision for its three-hour runtime and over-the-top spectacle – this despite a loyal hive of fans who remain convinced it will age like a lost masterpiece. Regardless, it was the kind of exercise in excess that can derail a director...

Damien Chazelle has no illusions about the hit that “Babylon” took on his career.

There is an old adage about filmmaking that says 90 of the director's job is casting. The reasoning behind this comes from the fact that during a fictional, narrative feature, the audience will spend the vast majority of the time looking at the faces on screen. The characters are our entry point to the cinematic world laid out in front of us. If the people you put in front of the camera are compelling, unique, and, more than anything, truthful, you will be able to take the audience wherever you wish. While I think the percentage is certainly a little hyperbolic, I do not think you can undersell the importance of casting.
What directors look for in casting varies wildly from person to person. Some just want a collection of the most attractive people they can find to dazzle the audience. Some want to surround one or two movie stars with a collection of warm,...
