Gone Global
ThomasDrufke11 May 2016
Arrow has officially gone global. By that I mean that this episode actually dealt with a potential global catastrophe, and that ended up hindering my liking of 'Monument Point', but that wasn't the only issue with the episode.

Damien Darhk's entire Genesis plan is ridiculous. We all know that. But this week I felt like the direction they decided to take his plan and the execution of it, didn't fit with what I hope Darhk would be as an antagonist. I tend to dislike the stories with heroes saving an entire world or galaxy in favor of something more personal and grounded, which is why Arrow has been so brilliant in the past. But with Team Arrow, plus Felicity's father, having to stop nuclear missile's from hitting various points across the globe, we lost that intimate hero-villain dynamic that made previous seasons work so well.

On a lighter note, Quentin and Donna shared some nice dramatic moments this week as the former dealt with his affidavit involving his daughter's time as the Black Canary. It's always nice to see Blackthorne on the show and Donna complements him very well. It's a romance that's starting to grow on me.

Brick and Anarky made their unwelcomed way back into the world of Arrow as side villains who distracted Team Arrow from their goals. Brick was a stupidly painful villain last year while Oliver was 'dead', so I was less than enthused to see his return. Besides being in the way of Green Arrow and Spartan, he didn't do a whole lot. Anarky showed up inside of Darhk's 'safe-house-neighborhood- thing', mostly to give Thea something to do, but for no other real significant reason. However, both of them were a part of some great fight sequences. If it weren't for the fights, tonight's Arrow would have been a complete waste.

When they weren't stealing things from Palmer Tech or fighting Brick, Oliver and Diggle had some much needed screen time together. If it wasn't clear already, Team Arrow is falling apart, and Oliver is doing everything he can to keep everyone's conscious in the right spot. Their discussion over whether Dig should tell Lyla the truth about Andy's death was an important one, but I still don't see why Lyla would care all that much.

If anything else, this episode had a nice rapid pace to it. I felt a sense of urgency from each scene to the next, exemplifying the fact that we only have a few episodes left to go. It still seems strange to think Team Arrow will find a way to beat Darhk, especially with his seemingly added power after the bombing. Which, was also quite unexpected. I just don't like the fact that this episode felt too ambitious in its reach. But I do expect to see the bomb going off in Havenrock to have some repercussions come season 5.

+Quentin not making Oliver's mistake

+Fights

+Sense of urgency

-Too global

-Side villains leave me wanting more Darhk

Arrow - S04E21 Monument Point

Warning: Spoilers
What I usually do when watching episodes I am going to review is make some form of list of the things I want to talk about in my review. Usually these are highlights and lowlights that I really want to address. I finished this episode with not much at all. I think this was just a very mediocre episode. I really think this may take the title as my shortest review.

The premise of this episode was really good in itself. I thought that the decision to try and get Felicity's dad back was good and I thought the pacing of them hunting him down was pretty good. However apart from that nothing stood out for most of the episode. Felicity was fired which was a little unexpected but in the end it was only thrown in their story wise to give Team Arrow another hurdle they have to overcome.

The flashbacks were again a bit of a low. They were really action packed which was nice and I'll touch on the action later, but the flashbacks didn't give much story wise as usual. We all know how detailed and well executed early in season 1 and 2 but they have really reached rock bottom. We did get to see the scene where the girl Oliver is with gets her magic yellow eyes. Of course we have to wait for next week to be given a reason to why it happened.

I did however have a few things I liked. I really liked how they weren't able to stop one missile. What it really did was give stakes to what Team Arrow are trying to stop. Even though the build up wasn't as exciting as it really could have been. What made me really like about this as well was we got to see Felicity do what she does best and team up with her father and be the mighty hacker we know she can be.

I also thought the action was really spot on this episode. For a TV with the budget it has, they really can pull some great action sequences. The final act with the jumps between Oliver and Diggel fighting HIVE and Thea fighting Anarchy. They were really choreographed well and I think they really was a stand out of the episode.

Mediocre. That's all I can really say. This wasn't a stand out episode by any means but I didn't hit anywhere near the lows that other episodes have.

Arrow: Monument Point

Warning: Spoilers
This weeks' episode of Arrow titled "Monument Point" delivered yet another amazing episode.

This review is going to be 100% spoiler free so don't worry about any spoilers at al.

To start off, after last weeks "Genesis", I was really looking forward to this weeks episode as the reveal of Genesis just blew me away.

The final conflict between Team Arrow and Darhk had arrived in tonight's episode and this week Felicity cam into even the game a bit and turned to her father (THE CALCULATOR) for help.

Really good episode! 8.7/10

Nukem!

For the most part, you won't remember the episode as great or memorable, if not for it's utter ridiculous qualities. The return of villains, flashbacks were mundane to say the least and while the stakes became higher, it was pretty darn generic. The standout could be the action, which although cool in some respects, blatantly rips off Netflix's Daredevil (it looks as if the CW they kidnapped Murdocks stunt double and forced him to flip-kick and tumble for 10 minutes). Not a strong episode, but good as a whole.

Could have been much better

Warning: Spoilers
Let's start with my grievances.

1)Felicity and Momma smoak have a total of 13 minutes(36% of the episode) of screen time(this only includes when they are talking!) For example, why was the scene of Felicity and her mom talking needed. Why did we need to focus on her saying goodbye to her loved ones? We didn't see diggle go kiss his daughter on the head in case if something happened, we didn't see Oliver even try to get in touch with Thea.

2)Instead of asking Curtis for help(someone who has helped them before) they decide to break into the Smoak building

3)While I like that Felicity wasn't able to fix it herself, isn't it really convenient the only person who can stop it is her dad? Like come on. Not even the entire NSA(a group of people who dedicate their lives to national security, and have much more experience than "I used to hack in college, and then I became an IT girl")?

4)Felicity's dad took a bullet for her. Some how I imagine this will change everything, Felicity will say something like "Dad I don't approve of the choices you've made, but you're still my father".

5)Felicity was mad at her father for stealing from her company. She wasn't mad about him betraying her mother, trying to kill thousands of people, or shutting down the internet.

6)Momma smoak gets mad at Lance for saying that he is going to say he didn't know Laurel was the black canary, when this could very well mean he never becomes a cop again(what he believes is his purpose in life) all because it's a lie.

7)Momma smoak goes into his house when he isn't home. She proceeds to snoop around the entire place. I assume Lance didn't have this out in the open, so that means she probably went into all the rooms in his house, reading through various personal documents. WTF? This isn't normal. If anything Lance should be mad at her. It's not like they've been dating for 3 years, they've barely been dating for long at all, and she did this super creepy thing.

8)Oliver shoots 4 arrows. just 4. One doesn't even get the guy down for the count. one is used to escape. One more is shot into another guys leg, then one more is used to tie him up. This show is called Arrow, however, Oliver queen seems more like a back seat character lately.

9)The fate of the world is at risk. What do they do? Argus spares 7 men to try to defend the "only person" who can stop them. They don't send in the military, not the national guard, not the navy seals. Just 7 Argus agents.

10)The united states has a lot of defenses against Nuclear missiles, you're telling me they couldn't shoot a single rocket at it? You're telling me they couldn't have sent a plane to shoot it down? You're telling me they couldn't have asked the flash to make a whirlwind in the air to send it off course? They could have done anything. But no, Felicity needs more screen time to blame herself for everything that happened, it's all about felicity.

For the sake of keeping this review short I'll stop there.

This episode was not all bad though. Here's what I thought was good.

1)Thea got a fight scene, while there were parts of it that were stupid(Thea laying on the ground while Alex gets tazed then proceeding to get up 2 seconds too late.) it was still a decent fight scene.

2)Felicity got fired. I'm not saying this is a pro because I hate felicity. This just makes sense. She is constantly skipping work, skipping meetings, and taking company tech. Not to mention also taking money. It makes sense that she be kicked out, just like Bruce Wayne in batman.

3)Arrow did some sort of Arrow things. He did flips, and so on. But he still took way too long to take down brick.(Oliver has been training for months, Brick has been in jail(and Brick took an arrow to the hand like 3 hours ago)).

And the pain continues

Nice hand rays a fool!!! If so talented he wouldn't have lost a hand.

GA employs the fake voice again. So silly and foolish. The on and off use is inconsistent and meaningless.

Two guys in Halloween costumes was a perfect line to describe how ridiculous this show has become.
