This film essentially begins with a baseball player being killed by a poisonous projectile during a crucial championship game. Naturally, the police want to keep the details under wraps for the time being to help their investigation, but even so that doesn't stop a private investigator by the name of "Tarao Bannai" (Chiezo Kataoka) from trying to ascertain the truth on his own. Neither, does it appear, deter another private investigative firm from also attempting to break the story open as it would make for great publicity for their company. To that end, one specific employee named "Masako" (Chizuru Kitagawa) also wants to ingratiate herself with her boss and tries to investigate the matter as well. Try as she might, however, she always seems to run into Tarao who often knows more about the investigation than she does--and he doesn't seem to mind keeping her apprised of the situation. However, things become even more serious when other baseball players are targeted and the body counts begins to rise. Now, rather than reveal any more, I will just say that this was a rather odd murder-mystery which successfully combined elements of humor along the way to keep things even more interesting. Admittedly, some of the sports scenes looked rather contrived and the ending could have used some improvement as well--but even so I enjoyed this film for the most part and I have rated it accordingly. Slightly above average.
