ABC has given a cast contingent pilot order to the drama “Will Trent,” Variety has learned.
The project is based on Karin Slaughter’s best-selling “Will Trent” novel series. It focuses on Special Agent Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (Gbi), who was abandoned at birth and endured a harsh coming-of-age in Atlanta’s overwhelmed foster care system. But now, determined to use his unique point of view to make sure no one feels as abandoned as he was, Will Trent has the highest clearance rate in the Gbi.
Liz Heldens and Dan Thomsen are set to write and executive produce the pilot. Slaughter will also serve as an executive producer. 20th Television is the studio.
The first book in the “Will Trent” novel series, “Triptych,” was published in 2006. The most recent entry, “The Silent Wife,” was published in 2020. There are now 10 books in the series in total.

Halsey performed her new single “Graveyard” on Wednesday’s Ellen, transforming an ordinary bedroom into a trippy digital realm.
The singer opens her song draped across a vanity, staring into the mirror as the electro-pop track begins. After the first chorus hit, she stands up and launches into choreographed moves, including a series of spins, jerky movements and copious crawling. In an unexpected visual twist, she peers through a doorframe into a computerized landscape of floating shapes.

Bette Midler headlined New York’s World Pride main event Saturday night at the Javits Center in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Stonewall. During her performance of her 1973 hit single “Friends” accompanied by composer Marc Shaiman of Hairspray fame, she took a moment to bite back at President Trump.
“Now I’m going to tell you a little secret,” she told the crowd, teasing that she was surprised she was invited to the event because Trump recently called her a “washed-up psycho.” “Just two weeks ago, I was a washed-up psycho.

Think about the lost song you heard on the radio and how it made you feel? Now think about it in the context of it you ever heard it in a TV show.
Would the scene be happy or sad? Would it be the climactic scene or an opening scene? Are the lyrics ironic for what you imagine? Musical scores and soundtracks are vital to setting the tone for what an audience should be feeling and even sometimes subverting it.

Whether it's a montage or a pivotal choice in a television show's season, the right song makes all the difference, and there are so many tv shows right now doing spectacular things with music.
Often times, you'll find that slow ballads playing over dramatic scenes are the ones you might be drawn to, but there are also cases of upbeat music enhancing a show's atmosphere.

The Sunday May 5 episode of “American Idol” spotlighted the Top 6. Each of these half dozen finalists sang two tunes: one from the summer of 1969 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock musical festival and another chosen as inspirational by Grammy-winning Christian singer Lauren Daigle, who got her start on the show.
As the show was seen live from coast-to-coast, America cast votes for their favorites in real-time. The results were revealed by host Ryan Seacrest at the end of the two-hour episode. The top four vote-getters — Alejandro Aranda, , Wade Cota, Laine Hardy and Madison VanDenburg — moved on in the competition to be crowned winner of season 17.
The bottom two — Laci Kaye Booth and Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon — were to be eliminated unless the judges chose to use their single save of the season. After a nerve-wracking few moments, Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie opted to throw a lifeline to Laci.

On May 5, the “American Idol” Top 6 will sing two songs apiece: one will be inspirational (as chosen by Grammy-winning Christian singer Lauren Daigle) while the other will date back to the summer of 1969 in honor of the 5oth anniversary of the Woodstock music festival. At the end of the live two-hour show, Ryan Seacrest will reveal the four artists to make it through based on the public vote.
“Idol” fans still give the edge to Alejandro Aranda to win season 17. His audition video went viral and he continues to lead our viewers poll as he has all season long. As of this writing, he has a solid 38% of the total tally. But Laine Hardy is coming on strong. Last week, he registered 22% support; this week he is up to 26%.

Sunday’s “American Idol” episode showcases the Top 6 who will sing two songs each: one that is inspirational and the other from 50 years ago. If the viewers vote along the lines of their responses to our recent survey, it will be the end of the road for the two remaining women in the competition: Laci Kaye Booth and be Madison VanDenburg. They earned a mere 6% and 8% respectively in our poll.
Two of the four fellows still standing also look like they could be in trouble: Wade Cota has just 12% of the vote count while Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon sits at just 10%. Adding together the support for these four contestants comes to 36% of the total.
That sum is easily eclipsed by Alejandro Aranda, who has registered an impressive 38%. His closest competition, Laine Hardy, has risen to 26% of the vote to date.

Laci Kaye Booth is all but certain to face elimination on “American Idol” this Sunday according to the results of our poll of viewers. She made the Top 8 on last Sunday’s Queen Night episode. But she has earned only a measly 6% in our survey of “American Idol” fans heading into the Top 6 show on May 5.
The other contestant joining her in the bottom two is likely to be Madison VanDenburg who merited a mere 8% in our poll results. Each can only avoid elimination if they are saved by judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie who can invoke this power just one time in season 17.
All six singers still in the competition will take to the stage on Sunday to perform inspirational tunes. Of the other four artitsts, Wade Cota and Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon look the most vulnerable. Wade has only 12% support while Jeremiah is at 10%. Combined, these...

The “American Idol” Top 8 will sing Queen songs and also duet with another contestant on a movie tune as they vie for your votes on Sunday April 28. Only six of them will make it to the next stage of the competition and continue on in their quest to be crowned season 17 winner. Early favorite Alejandro Aranda, whose audition video went viral, is far out front in our viewers poll. But while he still takes a commanding 39% of the total tally, Laine Hardy has jumped up to 22% support.
The only other contestants to crack double digits in our power rankings are Wade Cota with 11% and Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon at 10%. Laci Kaye Booth and Madison VanDenburg each have a lucky 7%. The two contestants all but certain to be sent eliminated on Sunday’s show are Walker Burroughs (3%) and Alyssa Raghunandan (2%).

One day after “American Idol’s” Disney night, the Top 8 singers of Season 17 held a private listening session for journalists and influencers at EastWest Studios in Hollywood. All of the finalists gave acoustic performances for the intimate crowd, including Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon who had completely lost his voice that day. (Perhaps Katy Perry‘s sea witch Urusula was to blame?) Even voiceless, Jeremiah delivered a haunting rendition of The Beatles‘ “Blackbird” that proved why he’s one of the front-runners to join the “American Idol” winners list (watch above).

For the first time in 17 seasons, Ryan Seacrest called in sick to American Idol on Monday, forcing mentor Bobby Bones out of the wings and into the spotlight. (Bones tried to play it cool, but let’s be real — he’s been ready to give Seacrest the Nomi Malone treatment since Day 1.)
Even without Seacrest on hand to incite panic, Monday’s Idol remained a dramatic two-hour experience, which ended with the elimination of three more singers… and the official reveal of Season 17’s Top 14. But before we find out which contestants are proceeding to next week’s first live episode,...

“American Idol” concluded the Top 20 stage of the competition on April 8 when Ryan Seacrest revealed the seven artists from Group 2 who had made the cut. They join the seven acts from Group 1 who were announced on Sunday to form the Top 14 who will sing for America’s votes in the live shows starting April 14.
As with Group 1, the 10 contestants in Group 2 got one more chance to audition for Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. This time, they were paired with well-known musical artists to perform duets, often of the songs which are most associated with these famous faces. The three judges then had to decide which of the 10 contenders deserved to continue in the competition based on these duets and the solos that they sung as well. Spoilers ahead

Forensic tests claim to confirm Jack the Ripper was the suspect barber Aaron Kosminski.
New DNA evidence reveals the notorious 19th-century serial killer Jack the Ripper was 23-year-old Polish barber Aaron Kosminski, according to Science magazine. Kosminski was the prime suspect for the murders in the 130-year cold case, the crimes that gave birth to the 20th century, per the 1979 film Time After Time. All these years later, the Jack the Ripper has never been conclusively identified.
Researchers at Liverpool John Moores University write they have conducted “the most systematic and most advanced genetic analysis to date regarding the Jack the Ripper murders.” Two sets of DNA traces found on the original evidence match both Kosminski and Catherine Eddowes, the Ripper’s fourth victim. They also suggest the killer had brown eyes and brown hair, which coincides with eyewitness reports at the time.

Nickelodeon’s Blue’s Clues reboot has a host and a new title. TV newcomer and Broadway actor Joshua Dela Cruz will lead a new generation of preschoolers in the search for clues with the beloved energetic girl puppy blue on Blue’s Clues & You (fka Blue’s Clues). Production begins this month in Toronto.
The network announced in March that it was bringing back the animated preschool classic with a 20-episode series order that would have a “refreshed signature look.”
In Blue’s Clues & You, puppy Blue invites viewers to join her and live action host Dela Cruz on a clue-led adventure and solve a daily puzzle. With each signature paw print, Blue identifies clues in her animated world that propel the story and inspires viewers to interact with the action.
The casting of Dela Cruz was the result of an opening casting call that began last April in Southern California.

When we suggested 12 female rockers late last summer to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame voters, not one of them was chosen for induction. It’s still one of the biggest hot button issues for this group that they continue to insanely overlook some of the greatest ladies in this genre, almost always choosing male groups and solo men instead.
The only female artist inducted this year was the late Nina Simone, known more in her career for soul, R&B and blues than rock. Sister Rosetta Tharpe was recognized at the 2018 ceremony for her early influence. In fact, some of the only female artists inducted in recent years have been Joan Baez (2017), Darlene Love (2011), Linda Ronstadt (2014) and Donna Summer (2013).
So we provide you with the same dozen ladies below for consideration to be inducted in 2019 because we feel like they all eventually deserve to join the Hof. Vote now...

As a child, the notion of romance to me was distant and adult, and frankly I wanted no part of it – especially in movies; I was the comedy and horror kid, with the occasional foray into fantasy. (Okay, I kissed Bev Peters on the cheek under the schoolyard tire when I was seven, but that fizzled out quickly.) I did however make my way to my small town’s Orpheum theatre at the age of nine to see what looked like a promising horror/sci-fi blend, Nicholas Meyer’s Time After Time (1979), and stumbled out into the darkness with a new understanding of what romance meant to me.

Time After Time, one of a plethora of new time travel series to land on air during the 2016-17 season, has been canceled by ABC after five low-rated airings.
