Good performances but sub-par production

Warning: Spoilers
I was quite surprised by several production deficiencies in this otherwise effective romantic drama from James Avalon. I had just watched several exemplary early works by him including "Nothing to Hide 3 & 4", so the falloff in quality two decades later was striking.

Feature shares the title with a New Sensations video, both mining the recently lucrative crypto-incest genre. Seth Gamble and Remy LaCroix are the single pair of title creatures, his mom Kylie Ireland (looking great in a non-sex role) having married her dad Steven St. Croix (who has played so many dads of late it's a blur -here he has grey-white hair to distinguish himself literally).

Controversy exists probably only in my mind over the skimpy screenplay: opening credit for writing goes to Dana Vespoli; end credit is shared by her with Avalon, and the DVD box cover gives sole credit to James as part of its "Written and directed by" boiler plate. Not much to fight over, as simply we have the step-siblings initially warring with each other, but inevitably jumping in the sack by the final reel.

Along the way, Remy seems slutty bedding down with older man Marcus London; Gamble takes time out from his studying (they conveniently crack the books atop a bed, of course) with lovely Asian classmate Morgan Lee; and more significantly Remy mournfully relates a traumatic flashback as young teen catching daddy St. Croix humping her BFF schoolmate Casey Calvert in the dining room.

Besides the "wonder why?" moment of the father/daughter team having such similar yet not identical stage surnames, the Calvert sex scene is missing all sorts of content that might have made it interesting, for example -no anal even though CC has become a back-door queen lately on screen; no masturbating by peeper Remy while she watches - her presence is barely shown even though it's supposedly a flashback from her P-O-V; and Casey keeps her clothes on throughout, a schoolgirl outfit for the fetishists of same but disappointing for fans of pulchritude.

Action takes place for the umpteenth time at my favorite porn locale, the "Immoral Proposal" mansion, used to shoot that earlier Sweet Sinner title starring April O'Neil and Evan Stone. That same location was put to good use for Avalon's just-previous film "Sibling Rivalry" in which St. Croix and Ireland were also cast as parents, but of a different family.

Poor Remy is ill-served by Avalon's usually capable crew: lighting is unflattering to her crotch during the sex scenes, likewise the insufficient body makeup and unbelievably her shaved vagina has visible stubble instead of smoothness, almost as if she were trying to inaugurate a new trend a la Don Johnson's influential "Miami Vice" permanent 5:00 shadow over 30 years back. Watching this video (as I did) right after any similar release from Sweet Sinner's competitors like Girlfriends or Digital Sin or Girlsway gives SS instant demerits in terms of visual quality, even though the DVD boasts of an HDV shoot.

It's a shame because Remy gives a fine performance and deserved better back-up.
