Of all the trailers from Godard which the man directed himself, this one seemed the more complex and the more difficult to follow. First, because I still haven't seen the actual film "Pierrot le fou" (2 or 3 attempts, I got my mind in something else and I turned it down. One day, for sure). And second, compared to his previous film trailers, this one features dialogues after dialogues instead of just proving his bright and jumpy titles inter-cut with the film clips, and since the trailer isn't available with captions, I missed the context and the words they're saying.
My comments here are only to what I've seen and my thoughts in what I like seeing in a film trailer. Godard doesn't disappoint...again. Present the images and make the audience guessing what they're seeing and about to see when the movie comes out (back in 1965). There's Jean-Paul Belmondo, Anna Karina, colorful images in ways barely seen in previous Godard films - "Contempt" was his first colored I think but "Pierrot le fou" has a lot more in the canvas. And as usual, you keep what this project might have been: adventure, romance, thriller, comedy, action, politics involved or not? From what I hear...there's everything. Enjoy it. Compared to what trailers are these days, this is quite a masterful work. It's made by the director at least. Thumbs up. 6/10
Update (25 January): Finally watched "Pierrot le Fou" and enjoyed it immensely. The trailer helps you to form an idea; the experience, well...you can only get it with the movie. Read one or two reviews (good or bad) to go with the movie's flow without missing things or feeling that there's something wrong. There's pure magic of cinema and its possibilities.
