Director Melvin James conceived of the story and plot ten years ago and had actually written a script for the story. Over the years of writing many scripts and moving on with directing other projects, Melvin James realized that he had lost the original script on a crashed hard drive years ago. So he reached out to one of the few writers he trusted who could revive the story and that was James Pickering out of the UK. James Pickering and Melvin had developed a strong collaborative relationship after their film, "While The Cats Away" was accepted into the 2013 Cannes International Film Festival and subsequently developed into a television comedy series. James Pickering and Melvin James went on to write the script for "Maladaptive Behavior" based on the original idea.
