It should be noted that the film has an interesting plot beyond the wonderful settings

History gives for more

Although the movie leaves a lot of gaps, the story definitely stands out, and the settings they used are phenomenal

A trainwreck
Rivette693 November 2019
Sadly, an utter waste of budget, everyone's time and money. Minorities and females are sidelined to playing caricatures (including the girl, who barely has any lines, and her longest time on screen is used in a lengthy scene where she slow-mo dances in her underwear for no apparent reason), and the two main characters, father and son, are among the blandest put to screen. The dry dialogue, senseless scenes, an incomplete plot and a clunky pseudo-direction of Mr. Jamaicanoproblem (who assigned Pablo Agüero for the heavy-lifting mise en scène) leave baffling results in the final presentation of A Son of Man. The attractive point, an absurd overuse of drone shots and other showy camera techniques cannot save this headless film-a film that doesn't know what it wants to be other than a vanity project that's pretty enough to be cut into trailers and packaged nicely to be sold to oblivious moviegoers.

The most interesting film in cinemas right now
seyravicky14 January 2020
After reading all the comments I was afraid of watching this film but I was absolutely surprised by it ! This is a movie about a contemporary family with the legacy of colonialism in latin america. The movies grows fast and we find ourselves in a treasure hunt where the search is more important than the goal. There are really beautiful images of a place that only a few people could access.

Probably one of the biggest (in terms of costs and production) Ecuadorian films ever release and it makes me proud of being able to see a movie like this. The way it was shot was absolutely interesting full of drone shots and lovely music.

Hope to see more films like this in the years to come !

needs a sequel

The story is incredible, there are few Ecuadorian films that highlight the history of our country, our ethnic groups, mythology and others ... although the production is not so good but it is cool

Honestly 👎
eduardodinotte31 October 2019
I watched the movie today and I didn't really understand it. 1st) I thought it was in Spanish, but no problem "I speak English" 2nd) at the end in the credits says this movie was made without a script and 3rd) no script ?? that's why I got bored at the first 30 minutes. I saw it anyway ..... but the people who left the movie theater just didn't like it 👎

Fascinating
julicorbacho13 January 2020
The movie's adventure context, mixed with breath-taking cinematography allows it to touch upon delicate subjects of identity, father/son relations and social struggles of a third world country. Top that with a wonderful score that makes the film and it's visual feel like a modern-day opera and you have yourself a piece of art that it's definitely worth the watch.

Not so interesting as the title says
rikchy3 November 2019
A film of new genere: confusion, that's what you got a man Indiana Johns style, a excursion with photography of discovery channel style, a girl dancing and in a scene with rob zombie style ( nothing to do with the script in fact). At the end it seems a man got money to do a movie without knowledge about how to do it. Continuity on the movie has never be gotten just a collection of scenes individuals. I have to say Ecuadorian movies has a lot Better representatives films and filmmakers.

A Cinematographic Adventure
bastet-8720 January 2020
Somewhere between insanity and brilliance, "A Son of Man" plays an important part in the history of cinematography. Its imagination and curiosity for the unknown, makes it an enjoyable experience to watch -moreover, an adventure.

A new way of making cinema, I like that they can experiment with new ways so they look bad at the beginning but from there everything is great

Important film for Latin America
martacorbacho17 January 2020
Breathtaking and untouched landscapes, social class issues, post colonialism, magic realism and a very dysfunctional father/son relationship. This film summarizes the south american region in a nutshell, and boy does it look beautiful while doing it.

A true work of art
EugeniaEL28 January 2020
A Son of Man is undoubtedly the best Ecuadorian film of the last decade. Not only because of its intriguing story but also because of its wonderful cinematography that allows viewers to travel through the most beautiful and remote places in Ecuador.

It is an interesting movie that captivates you from the beginning and makes you feel part of the expedition. The use of real actors that for many is a strange choice by the director, allows you to feel a kind of credibility in this crazy story about the search for a treasure in the 21st century.

The fusion of fantasy, the expedition, the family history and the internal conflict of the characters are intertwined perfectly. Without a doubt, watching this movie leaves us with immense desire to get on a plane and travel the Ecuadorian lands and enter the Llanganates in search of an epic adventure.

The movie was very interesting
adrianmartinez-7954721 February 2020
The movie was very interesting, dense and has fun moments. I loved the performance of Lily and the follies of Luis Felipe. Definitely recommended for people who are looking for a different cinema, nothing commercial.

It has a hidden message that is worth highlighting. The production is impeccable, a photograph and truly great scenes. You can see how beautiful Ecuador has in the whole movie

Adventure and fantasy
andresleo-0340821 February 2020
Great success, broke a 15-week record on the billboard in Ecuador. That is a true achievement for national cinema. We should have more movies like this, as it shows all the great landscapes of our country. The story is curious and has a mystical touch that catches you. You can not stop watching it, recommend it and continue supporting local cinema.

It seems important to me as the history of the family is shown and intertwined with the treasure hunt. The family relationship that leads to follow in the footsteps of the father and the son, I think gives an interesting touch to the film.

I went to see her with my family because a friend recommended me. My family liked the production, instead I caught the trip of the protagonists to the most recondite of Ecuador to find the treasure. Poor Pipe lol I didn't know what he was getting into. Recommended
