Boys Will Be Boys was filmed in Monmouth County, NJ over the course of 4 days in August 2015. In the 4 days of production, most days averaged about 14 hours each of shooting.
Director Justin Giegerich stated, when filming, "I kind of want the audience to feel as though they're standing on a railroad track as a train slowly, but surely approaches."
The visual style was heavily inspired by artists such as Jackson Pollock and Kandinsky. Within the color palette, blue was determined to represent childhood innocence, while green was featured to show corruption. Filmmakers such as David Fincher and Paul Thomas Anderson were also big inspirations to the producer.
