Laura Dern (Jurassic World Dominion) and Liam Hemsworth (Poker Face) have signed on to star in the film Lonely Planet, which Susannah Grant (Unbelievable) is writing and directing for Netflix.
Lonely Planet is billed as a love story set in Morocco. Specifics with regard to its plot are being kept under wraps. Grant is also producing alongside Sarah Timberman and Liza Chasin for 3dot Productions, with VP Studio Film Kira Goldberg serving as creative lead for Netflix.
The film continues the creative partnership between Netflix and 3dot, which has thus far produced the streamer’s upcoming thriller series, Anatomy of a Scandal, based on the book by Sarah Vaughan. 3dot entered into a multi-year, first-look film deal with Netflix in 2019, with adaptations of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s bestseller The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Diane Cardwell’s memoir Rockaway also upcoming.

In a further sign of consolidation among independent distributors, Rialto Distribution has closed its Sydney office while continuing to book films into Australian cinemas via its Auckland headquarters.
However the end of the company’s presence in Oz after more than 20 years does not signal any reduction in acquisitions for multiple-platform release.
“We have gained much-needed economies of scale with Kevin Gordon, our Australia/New Zealand sales and distribution manager, selling in directly,” CEO Kelly Rogers tells If.
“This is going very well and Australian exhibitors are receptive to our strong line-up. We expect to release approximately 30 titles in 2020, mainly digital titles and select strong theatrical films.”

In a new interview with Deadline, Kristen Stewart is right to say that she wears her feelings. With each of her performances, from Olivier Assayas’ Gen-y ghost story “Personal Shopper” to Justin Kelly’s “Jt Leroy” and, now, Benedict Andrews’ “Seberg,” it feels like the actress is revealing another facet of her real self.
She’s currently at the Venice Film Festival to promote Amazon Studios’ “Seberg,” where the film will have its world premiere. In the politically charged thriller, Stewart plays ’60s New Wave icon Jean Seberg, complete with blond pixie cut, best known as New York Herald Tribune girl Patricia in Jean-Luc Godard’s “Breathless.”
However, Seberg was equally notorious at the time for her association with Black Power advocate Hakim Jamal (played here by Anthony Mackie), turning her into a target of the FBI, which already had tabs on Seberg illegally in the Hoover days through its surveillance program Cointelpro.

Kristen Stewart transforms into “Breathless” actress Jean Seberg in the first look at Amazon Studios’ “Seberg.” Previously titled “Against All Enemies,” the historical drama is the latest directorial effort from theater director and “Una” filmmaker Benedict Andrews.
“Seberg” stars Stewart as the French New Wave icon during the 1960s, when she was targeted by the FBI because of her political and romantic involvement with civil rights activist Hakim Jamal. In addition to Stewart, the “Seberg” cast includes Jack O’Connell, Anthony Mackie, Colm Meaney, Margaret Qualley, Vince Vaughn, Zazie Beetz, Stephen Root and Yvan Atta. The film is based on a true story.
For Stewart, “Seberg” is the latest entry in her list of filmmaker-driven independent films. The actress last appeared opposite Laura Dern in “Jt LeRoy,” which opened in the U.S. this past April. “Seberg” is world premiering at the 2019 Venice International Film Festival in an out of competition slot.

“Charlie’s Angels” has made the jump to 2019.
Kristen Stewart, who stars in the Elizabeth Banks-directed reboot as one of the Angels, says the classic ’70s franchise has been updated to modern times without losing its pulpy action.
“At one point I think we said it was woke and grounded, and everyone was like, ‘Wait, is it still fun?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah dude, obviously, it’s ‘Charlie’s Angels,'” she told Variety on Wednesday at the premiere of her film “Jt LeRoy” in Hollywood.
Banks is the first woman to helm a “Charlie’s Angels” movie. Ella Balinska and Naomi Scott make up the crime-fighting trio, along with Stewart, who alluded to the idea that more women could appear in the film.

Universal Pictures has released the trailer for “Jt LeRoy,” writer-director Justin Kelly’s take on one of the most infamous literary scandals of the last 20 years. Formerly known as “Jeremiah Terminator LeRoy,” it stars Laura Dern as the writer who made up the pseudonymous persona and Kristen Stewart as the sister-in-law who portrayed LeRoy in public — and if that sounds confusing, just imagine how everyone who bought the books felt. Avail yourself of the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis: “Laura Albert (Dern) writes tough, insightful fiction under a pseudonym, Jt LeRoy. Her Jt is not just a pen name but a whole persona, a teenage boy from West Virginia living a dangerous life as a truck stop sex worker. Laura was born in Brooklyn a generation earlier, and grew up in New York’s punk scene. Writing books such as ‘The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things’ as Jt...

Sneak Peek writer/director Justin Kelly's romantic drama feature "Jt LeRoy", based on the memoir "Girl Boy Girl: How I Became Jt Leroy" by Savannah Knoop starring Kristen Stewart, opening April 26, 2019:
"...'Savannah Knoop' (Stewart) spends six years masquerading as 'Laura Albert' and her literary persona 'Jeremiah Terminator LeRoy'.
"In 2006, The New York Times sent shockwaves through the literary world when it unmasked 'it boy' wunderkind 'Jt LeRoy', whose tough prose about a sordid childhood had captivated icons and luminaries internationally.
"It turned out LeRoy didn't actually exist. He was the creative expression of 40-year-old San Francisco housewife, 'Laura Albert' (Laura Dern) whose epic and entertaining account plunges us into a glittery world of rock shows and fashion events, ultimately revealing that channeling her brilliant fiction through another identity was her only possible path to self-expression..."

Sounds like Bella and Edward are both on board for a Twilight reboot! After Robert Pattinson said he was "ready" to reprise his role as the teenage vampire earlier this month, his former costar Kristen Stewart gave her thoughts on playing Bella again. While promoting her film Jeremiah Terminator LeRoy at Tiff, the actress dished on whether or not she would ever consider returning to the Twilight universe. "Yeah, sure," Stewart nonchalantly told Et before enthusiastically adding, "Yes, absolutely. Honestly, start sending scripts my way. Let's start building this."

Justin Kelly’s “Jeremiah Terminator LeRoy,” the closing-night film at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival, occupies a difficult slot at the mammoth festival. Tiff’s closing-night films typically don’t go on to enjoy significant commercial or critical success, more often destined for quick obscurity in the U.S. market.
Last year’s closing film, for instance, was the French comedy “C’est La Vie!” Before that, “The Edge of Seventeen” and “Mr. Right” at least made a little noise at the box office, “A Little Chaos” and “Life of Crime” less so.
But there’s good news and bad news for “Jeremiah Terminator LeRoy,” which stars Laura Dern and Kristen Stewart and had its first press screening on Monday in advance of Saturday’s closing-night gala.

The deservedly forgotten 2004 feature, The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things, has been in the news lately due to allegations of sexual misconduct against director and star Asia Argento, years after shooting wrapped, with her still-underage co-star Jimmy Bennett. The development and production of that project, along with an inflated depiction of its Cannes premiere, are central to Jeremiah Terminator LeRoy, with Diane Kruger stepping in as a deliciously opportunistic actress-filmmaker, here named Eva. That salacious connection to recent headlines should give Justin Kelly’s pedestrian account of the literary hoax behind it all an extra frisson. But deceit is heartless,...

Hard-living rocker and actress Courtney Love isn’t known as being a particularly good steward of some of her homes. Photographs from the early 1990s of a Los Angeles apartment she shared with late husband Kurt Cobain show they lived in virtual squalor. And, in 2011, she was evicted from a $27,000-per-month rented townhouse in Manhattan’s West Village after she made significant unauthorized decorative alterations and the property was damaged in a small fire started by a candle that set curtains in the master bedroom ablaze. So it’s not a total surprise that a pastoral property she owns on the semi-rural western outskirts of Olympia, Wash., now available at roughly $320,000, is in a total state of neglect. (Digital listings show the property is now pending sale.)

New York City-based Tinseltown couple Diane Kruger and Norman Reedus cemented their two-year-long romance with the $11.75 million, off-market acquisition of a handsome 19th-century townhouse in the bustling heart of New York City’s historic, charming and profoundly pricey West Village.
Prominently sited across a postage-stamp sized island parklet from a reliably traffic thronged avenue, the four-story Federal-style red-brick townhouse wasn’t listed on the open market. However, marketing materials from when the property was previously for sale indicate the semi-detached townhouse measures in, as was first noted in The Wall Street Journal, at around 3,800-square-feet with eight fireplaces, three exposures that fill the house with natural light throughout the day, and a roof terrace from which there are panoramic city views. And, though it’s quite possible and probably highly likely it’s been substantially altered, the townhouse was at one time configured with up to five bedrooms and four...

Diane Kruger is one of the six names in entertainment being celebrated at the inaugural IndieWire Honors on Nov. 2. Her leading role in Fatih Akin’s “In the Fade” won her best actress at the Cannes Film Festival.
There is a scene in “In the Fade” when Diane Kruger, playing a woman whose husband and son are killed in a suicide bombing, completely melts down. She doesn’t remember it. “It was such an out-of-body experience,” said Kruger, who won best actress at Cannes for role in the German-language production. “There are scenes in the movie where I feel like I’m not acting; I’m reacting to what’s happening in front of me. I was desperately searching for the truth.”
Kruger spent six months preparing for the role, meeting with nearly 30 relatives of murder victims to get inside the headspace, and the trauma stayed with her months after shooting was completed.

On Aug. 10, the couple were spotted enjoying a little R&R while soaking up the sun on the beach. Diane showed off her toned physique in a black one-piece, while Norman wore a wetsuit for his surf session. Diane has been busy shooting her upcoming film, Jt Leroy, in Canada, and Norman has been filming The Walking Dead in Georgia, so it only makes that the pair would want to get away for a few days. RelatedJoshua Jackson Puts All Ex-Boyfriends to Shame With Beautiful Note For Diane Kruger Diane and Norman first sparked dating rumors in 2015 after meeting on the set of their movie Sky. The Academy Board of Governors convenes Tuesday night to pick their next president. Three major candidates have emerged from the 54-member body, although anything can happen.
Dern would be the first actress since Bette Davis’s notoriously short two-month 1941 tenure. (She quit when she realized the all-male board would give her no power.) While movie stars like Gregory Peck and Douglas Fairbanks have served as president, only two women have served since Davis: Screenwriter Fay Kanin presided effectively from 1979 to 1983, and publicity executive Cheryl Boone Isaacs (the first African-American to hold the post) is exiting at the end of a tumultuous four-year term. During that time, she and Academy CEO Dawn Hudson spearheaded a concerted drive to add more diversity to the Academy, urging the 17 branches to actively recruit a younger and more inclusive membership from all over the world.
Isaacs also presided over the infamous last Oscar show, with...

When Kristen Stewart goes to Cannes, she’s usually promoting a movie directed by someone else — like Olivier Assayas’ “Personal Shopper,” which debuted on the Riviera last year. The actress’s Cannes anxiety usually derives from wanting to represent her director correctly, to get out the right message. But this year’s different.
“I’m not working for anyone but myself,” she says, beaming. “Ask me anything!”
Stewart came to Cannes this year as the director of her first short, the 17-minute “Come Swim.” She and her producers at Starlight Studios pitched the film to women’s website Refinery29, which also backed her chum Chloe Sevigne’s short “Kitty: The Movie.” They helped Stewart to develop her rough outline, in which she described an image of a giant wave “getting bigger and bigger” that “never breaks.” Stewart already knew just the Australian underwater photographer to shoot it. Indeed, the film...
