- Therapist Jean Holloway becomes too immersed in the lives of her patients.
- At first glance this Netflix series is about a New York therapist doing what therapists do: listen. But here therapist Jean Holloway played by Naomi Watts hides her own desperate need for therapy. Jean seems to have it all: a loving husband (Michael) played by Billy Crudup, a daughter (Dolly), and a successful practice. It seems to be everything she needs to be happy. But she isn't. Jean lies to her family and friends but worse starts manipulating her patients. Jean uses the confidential information she gathers from doctor/patient sessions to enter their lives. Maybe she is just trying to spice-up her own life or maybe she is trying to satisfy an itch she has to make everything work out her way. Whatever the reason, it works for Jean and she starts repeating the process with her other patients: she uses confidential information to manipulate and control the people around her.
