  Richard Castle : [entering]  I heard that. And if I'm so useless, why would Beckett ask me to consult on a murder? Oh, Mother, new autograph.

  Martha Rodgers : Yeah.

  Richard Castle : Nice. Conveys wisdom, insight. I like it.

• Hayley Shipton : Ah. You know, Rick, I have never seen you in action at an NYPD crime scene.

  Richard Castle : Well, perhaps you'd like to tag along, watch the crime scene Jedi Master at work?

  Hayley Shipton : Please tell me you do not refer to yourself as that. Do you? Really?

  Richard Castle : Perhaps you should come watch another time.

  Hayley Shipton : No, no, no. Lead on, Castle-Wan Kenobi. You are my only hope.

  Richard Castle : I like that. But save it. Say it in front of the guys.

• Javier Esposito : Looks like somebody caught Marcus in the act and killed him.

  Richard Castle : Or perhaps Marcus had a partner.

  Hayley Shipton : Partner?

  Richard Castle : Well, Marcus is a burglar. He would be on high alert. The only reason he'd let someone behind him is if he trusted that person, i.e., a partner. We find the person Marcus broke in here with, we find his killer.

  Kevin Ryan : Very good, Castle.

  Javier Esposito : Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

  Richard Castle : Why are you acting surprised?

  Hayley Shipton : Remind me, why am I doing this?

  Bryce Robert : Because I saved your ass in Marrakech.

  Hayley Shipton : Uh, I let you save my ass, old man, so that you could impress little miss naughty-knickers who you had a crush on.

• Marcus Janek : You know, for a couple of ex-spies, you sound a lot like sorority girls on spring break.

  Bryce Robert : Hayley, this is Marcus. He's going in with you.

  Marcus Janek : Bryce told me you were a badass, but he didn't say you were an X-rated fantasy.

  Hayley Shipton : It's very hard to focus on how charming you are when your breath smells like a festival toilet.

  [hands him a breath mint, to Bryce] 

  Hayley Shipton : Please tell me he's a better sneak than he is a pickup artist.

• Javier Esposito : Hayley. What happened? Did you lose a bet and now Castle gets to drag you everywhere he goes?

  Richard Castle : [laughs]  Quite the contrary, Hayley actually wanted to watch me solve yet another murder.

  Kevin Ryan : You mean help solve. You... help.

  Javier Esposito : Yeah, remember, bro, you cannot solve a homicide without us.

  Kevin Ryan : But we sure as hell can solve one without you.

  Hayley Shipton : Really? Because on the ride over here, Rick was bragging about how the NYPD can't close a case unless...

  Richard Castle : [interrupting]  Ah, those were just jokes that out of context, it's not as funny. I was rolling my eyes when I said it.

  [moving away with Hayley] 

  Richard Castle : Thank you for stabbing me in the back.

• [discussing the victim] 

  Richard Castle : I'm guessing from his outfit, he wasn't an employee.

  Javier Esposito : Most likely he's some kind of thief.

  Kevin Ryan : A pretty good one at that. None of the security was tripped, all the cameras were shut down.

  Richard Castle : Was anything stolen?

  Kevin Ryan : What's there to steal? I mean, this is an energy company office building. The only thing of value are the furniture and the computers.

  Hayley Shipton : [to Lanie]  May I?

  Javier Esposito : Clearly we're helpless. So, come on, Castle, please, solve this case for us.

  Richard Castle : Well, the only thing we know for sure is...

  Hayley Shipton : [inspecting the body]  He was killed at 3:27 a.m.

  Lanie Parish : Very good, Hayley.

  Richard Castle : Whoa! Wait, what? How did you know that?

  Hayley Shipton : Broken watch. He must have busted it when he hit the ground.

  Kevin Ryan : Esposito, we have Hayley. What do we need Castle for?

• Hayley Shipton : Damn it, Alexis, what are you doing here?

  Alexis Castle : Well, I needed some case files for work. But if this is how you get when people come over unannounced, I am happy to give you back your spare key.

• Kate Beckett : Hey, Ryan. Ned, here, wants to revise his statement.

  Kevin Ryan : Awesome. Had a little accident? Don't touch anything. Please.

  Kate Beckett : Uh! Excuse me, Hayley. Where are you going?

  Richard Castle : Hey, guys, is there a problem here?

  Kate Beckett : Hayley waterboarded Ned.

  Hayley Shipton : I did no such thing. It was more of a swirly.

• [London has been hit by a cyber attack cutting all power] 

  Kate Beckett : So, I spoke with the FBI and they are considering this an act of terror.

  Hayley Shipton : How bad's the damage?

  Kate Beckett : Uh, it's gonna be a few days before the power is back up in London. Maybe more.

  Hayley Shipton : Fantastic. So, I've unwittingly plunged my hometown back into the 16th century.

  Richard Castle : Oh, that might not be all that bad. I mean "Hamlet" was written in the 16th century.

  [sees their looks] 

  Richard Castle : I'm not helping.

• Hayley Shipton : I wish I'd remembered something about her. A tattoo, a scar...

  [sighs] 

  Hayley Shipton : You want a laugh? The only thing I recall about this woman is poor Ned fumbling around with her fancy corset.

  Richard Castle : Tell me more. Was it cotton or lace?

  Alexis Castle : Ew.

  Hayley Shipton : Perv much?

  Richard Castle : I'm serious.

  [sits at his computer to start typing] 

  Hayley Shipton : Okay. It was lace with black leather. Why?

  Richard Castle : Narrows it down. Padded?

  Hayley Shipton : No.

  Richard Castle : Back or front clasps?

  Hayley Shipton : Back. Clasps and buckles. And it had a metal ring on front with snaps.

  Richard Castle : Were there crystal studs across the décolletage?

  Hayley Shipton : Actually, yes.

  Richard Castle : La Seductrice. Now give me a moment to pull up the 2016 Mon Chéri collection.

  Hayley Shipton : That's it. That's the one.

  Richard Castle : And voilà, my work here is done.

  Alexis Castle : Hey, Dad, uh, should I even ask?

  Richard Castle : Nikki Heat research.

• Richard Castle : Are you all right?

  Hayley Shipton : Sure. I'm fine.

  Richard Castle : You don't have to mourn your friends alone, you know.

  Alexis Castle : You don't have to do anything alone, ever again.

• Hayley Shipton : [on phone]  Bryce, Marcus is dead. What the hell is going on? Does this have anything to do with your client?

  Bryce Robert : Hayley, I'm sorry. I lied, about everything. There is no cheating husband, nor an angry wife.

  Hayley Shipton : What? How could you be so...

  Bryce Robert : I had no choice.

  Hayley Shipton : Why? Who put you up to this?

  Bryce Robert : It doesn't matter. Not anymore. All you need to know is Code 44... I'm sorry, Hayley. I'm so sorry.

• Alexis Castle : I see what's going on. You've got your go-bag, your guns. Is this why you wanted to go by that crime scene? Hayley, if you're in trouble, talk to me.

  Hayley Shipton : I can't, it's not safe.

  [she moves to leave, but Alexis stops her] 

  Hayley Shipton : Okay. Look, I did a favor for a friend last night, at least I thought he was a friend. It was meant to be a quick P.I. job, but, technically, I broke a few laws.

  [Hayley moves to leave again and is stopped] 

  Alexis Castle : Okay. We'll tell Beckett, tell my dad. They can help.

  Hayley Shipton : No, they can't. The friend I was working with, we were in MI6 together. He just phoned. Turns out the job wasn't legit. Something bigger is going on. Something bad enough that he told me to go Code 44.

  Alexis Castle : Uh, what does Code 44 mean?

  Hayley Shipton : It means abandon everything and everyone. It means run for your life and don't look back.

  Alexis Castle : You can't do that.

  Hayley Shipton : I have no choice.

  Alexis Castle : Yes, you do. After years of floating from one place to the next, you've finally found a real home here.

  Hayley Shipton : And I might be putting you and it in danger by staying. I have to go. Now.

  Alexis Castle : No. You have to stay and fight. Figure out what's really going on and fix it... Please, at least try.

• Kate Beckett : Look. Apparently, Ned was tricked by some woman named Karla into gaining access to the building and the secured server, most likely to help Marcus rob the place.

  Hayley Shipton : Yeah, but clearly something happened between Marcus and Karla, because it looks like she's the one that drove that knife into his back.

  Richard Castle : And is that all?

  Hayley Shipton : Why are you asking me?

  Richard Castle : Because clearly something is going on with you, Hayley. Something connected to this case. You know you can tell us.

  Hayley Shipton : [pause]  I was in that office last night.

  Kate Beckett : Okay, we need to talk. Now.

  [cut to them entering an interrogation room] 

  Hayley Shipton : Really, you want to talk in here?

  Kate Beckett : [laughs]  Yes, this is where we question all of our murder suspects.

  Hayley Shipton : You think I killed Marcus.

  Kate Beckett : Right now, I don't know what to think.
