Johnny comments on the election campaign which just ended, expressing relief that the TV commercials are over, and astonishment over the $20 million spent on the close Senate race between Alan Cranston and Ed Zschau. Johnny and Ed then discuss how they spent the previous week off, mostly talking about Ed's trip on his boat from Marina del Rey to Long Beach, which Johnny considers an embarrassingly short trip. For the comedy segment, Johnny describes special moments that happened on shows which were supposedly recorded just in case the "specials" of the previous week (the World Series) ended early. Johnny first talks to Burt Reynolds about his Cosmopolitan centerfold of 1973 and the joke version he had given to Johnny. Reynolds also talks about aging and his choices of movies to make, says that his relationship with Loni Anderson has passed the five-year mark, and offers his thoughts on marriage. His next topic is how he is working on his autobiography, and possible titles. Johnny then quizzes him with questions from the California Drivers Test, since Reynolds has made two "Cannonball Run" driving movies. Dick Shawn does a stand-up comedy routine. During his interview segment, he talks about performing at smaller venues, and the acts that perform with him.
