Nice Tribute
John Bailey on Boris Kaufman (2011)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
Cinematographer John Bailey is on hand to discuss the work of Boris Kaufman, the brilliant cinematographer best remembered for films like 12 ANGRY MEN, ON THE WATERFRONT, BABY DOLL, THE KING AND I and THE FUGITIVE KINDD. Bailey talks about Kaufman's early life, how he got into the movies and then he discusses various films. The main focus of the films is on 12 ANGRY MEN and Bailey focuses in on several different scenes as he explains why the lens selection was so important and what the cinematographer was able to do as the time in the film changed. This is another well-produced featurette from The Criterion Collectiion as there's a great bit of knowledge shared and we get a semi-educational breakdown of certain scenes in 12 ANGRY MEN that is great to see.
