Like many such films, the CGI and special effects are interesting. I especially liked the effects of the Trashmen. Because of this the film remains moderately entertaining throughout... but only moderately.
Because like many such films, there are unfilled plot holes throughout, unanswered questions, plodding story, ridiculous script lines, and a 1 hour Saturday special streeeetched out to a plodding 2 hours.
The overall plot is barely viable. It is more fantasy than sci fi, and the fantasy is pushed to the limits. There is no rhyme nor reason, no actual explanation, and in the end one is left with a "cautionary morality story" that really makes no sense whatsoever. Is energy our friend or enemy? Technology our doom or savior? It's never really said.
The only saving grace is the effects... and those are admittedly pretty sharp. We don't know WHY any of those effects happen, their origin or purpose, but they're sharp. Aside from that, this is 2 hours of mind-numbing drool fest.
