What the Heck!?
Hitchcoc3 November 2016
As I watched the fourth episode of this series, I just started seeing Hugh Laurie as someone other than Gregory House. He is passive and indecisive and at odds with the world. With his MO I'm surprised that he has any patients at all for his psychiatric practice. He could probably use on himself (though many of the people I know in this field sort of have that problem). I will wait for things to play out but I'm starting to believe that this is an allegory. For instance, his name is Chance. This is a name rife with irony, since he is initially unable to take a chance and now he is taking foolish chances. Then there is the guy he's hooked up with to figure out what to do with the abused woman. On the one hand he is a dangerous nut; on the other he spouts homely philosophy and battle field ethics. The woman he is dealing with is a Sybil, with two personalities and erratic behavior. I have to say I am having trouble tolerating the protagonist. He is whiny and careless. In this episode he goes out with D and they attack some poor schmuck. They tail the evil husband/homicide policeman who is seen leading a vice raid. The woman reveals important information to Chance, making us wonder why she has withheld these things in the past. I'm more curious than excited about this series, having not read the book upon which it is based. One thing. All the criticism aside. Hugh Laurie is a superb actor. We already knew that.

Warning: Spoilers
This show is really goofy. Hugh Laurie is still great in the title role, but it is not handling the concept of the doctor having to go rogue and turn into a hero craziness all that well.

I hope they do explore more of his actual career and his roles as an expert, but I worry that is not the end or long game of this program.
