While many still perceive video games as a trifling recreational activity, there are some who pursue it professionally, and even fewer can call themselves world champions. One of these people is Isaiah “Triforce” Johnson, a gamer living in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn, and the subject of Jack Schurman’s new short documentary “Triforce.” Schurman examines the Triforce’s life, who grew up running from arcade to arcade with his neighborhood friends trying to beat each other’s high score. The crew grew up to become world champions and formed a group called “Empire Arcadia,” led by Triforce. Now, in his thirties, Triforce muses on his childhood as a second generation immigrant, the triumphs and failures of his life, and what it’s like to pursue seemingly impossible dreams.
