Dude.. I paid 7 bucks.. and forced every minute of this into my skull.. the only horror felt watching this movie is the sense of loss felt for having watched it in the 1st place.

This could have been a lot better had they got people who could actually act.. From the start I lost interest due to the poor dialog and acting..the budget must have been very for this film as nearly the same tune is played out in the entire movie and every murder happened off screen with the audience left with just the sound of the killings...I don't normally rate movies on this as you can tell..but my God this is bad...

Please dont post bogus reviews and ratings. Half of the cast's acting truly sucks. Like they were in front of the camera for the first time.

It says there are 6 reviews. Then it becomes 3 critics reviews. When I check the critic review from Rotten Tomatoes there is no actual review. When I check for reviews there are none. And yet this movie has a rating of 8.5? What is going on here?

This film took a real event in history and distorted and changed it to fit their own agenda. To claim it was based on true events is grasping at straws. Also, their take on Preston's history is blatantly sensationalized. Anna Corbin was a real person, her murder was brutal and the man who killed her got away with it. The Superintendent or "Warden" did not kill Anna Corbin, it was a ward, Eugene Monroe, from the school who had been suspected of killing another young woman in 1947, then in 1950 Anna was murdered while he was at Preston on cleaning detail just yards away from Anna's office. Although he was acquitted, he went on to murder again, this time in Tulsa, the victim being a pregnant dance instructor. He went to prison for 29 years for that crime. The filmmakers had no right to take Anna's story and change it, or to make her out to be a vindictive ghost when that is not the case. They have dishonored the dead who walked the halls of Preston. Just like in the movie the Conjuring, the name and story of a defenseless woman has been sullied and slandered with no way to speak for herself to tell the world that their telling of her story is false. This is not a true story, this is a work of complete fiction and slander.

Ok, it's low budget. But it is still just crap. Crappy acting, crappy writing, crappy everything. Though as a DP I give the cinematography a pass cuz I'm sure he had no money and high school kids as crew. The film is that bad. And $7 to watch it. C'mon! I guess fake accounts are easy to make. Any review praising this film must be associated with it. In fact one of the producers reviewed it and gave it a 10. That's hard up.

I've seen film students write better movies than this. The dialogue is basic and delivery is at times unbelievably bad. Its not quite bad enough to be one of those movies that is so bad that you like them, it is just bad. The jokes in the film are forced and unfunny. The camera shots are weird and it moves quite a bit at certain points in the movie. There are also massive plots holes in the big reveal (and you already know what is going to happen). Overall, don't pay to watch this movie. My friends and I rented it on Vudu, solely because the only review called it "reprehensible and off-putting". I wouldn't go that far, but it was definitely a waste of money.

I tend to give low budget horror a lot of leeway. This is so bad, I can't with good conscience do that. There are no half stars to give. Simply put- one of the worst attempts at horror in a long time. Clearly the producers have no idea how to make a film worth watching. I feel sorry for actors, the crew and the investors. I'm sure there were a lot of good people involved who worked very hard on this crappy film. Save your money.

Wow. The bad horror films/directors are jousting for the worst position. Hard to imagine this movie losing to another movie.

Yeah, there's back story, BUT the backstory does not explain anything. Why this spooky old asylum is nocturnal, well, no one knows.

And all five of the characters are NOT likeable. With that... it's hard to root for anyone.

Okay, the movie isn't the best horror movie, doesn't have the best script and some of the actors are really really bad but it has some good elements and it is a bit scary and it is unfair to give it rating of 1 or 2. I like it and I can say I watched movies a lot worse than this one with famous actors. So for normal people (majority of the world population), it is not bad.

Dont trust reviews about the movie, as most are 1st time reviwers who obviously have ties to the movie. It's a slow paced boring movie with no real story or action. Give it a miss or watch train to Busan if you want a real good horror action movie,though it is subtitled for people who may not like subs,watch the babysitter for the same action horror

What the heck?!! How are Mena Suvari and Kevin Pollack involved in this piece of crap film? What do the writers/directors have on the only two known and actually decent actors in this film?

I actually thought this was a student film that got an F, and just to prove the teacher wrong for the bad grade, the student vowed to get it out to the public.

Horrible directing- with no transitions between scenes bad lighting, really bad editing-just some of the worst directing I have ever seen! Terrible dialogue, terrible acting, mediocre and overdone storyline.

Overall a total piece of crap that everyone in my family begged me to shut off after ten torturous minutes. So I greed to fast forward if it got worse in ten more -and it did!

The writers and actors seem confused between autistic savant tech genius and Tropic Thunder's Simple Jack if you get my meaning.

Actors choking on their awful lines. Every character involved seems intellectually stunted, and the jokes made by the writers wouldn't even be appreciated by elementary school kids. Stereotypes everywhere.

Basic description sounds fun, but hooo boy the execution just isn't there.

Apparition (2019) is a movie I recently watched on Tubi. The storyline for this picture focuses on a group of friends who are being supportive of a young lady who wants to participate in a study of a haunted estate. They discover the troubled past of the estate and why they are the perfect test subjects to pull the super natural elements out for the study.

This movie is directed by Waymon Boone (The Devil's in the Details) and stars Mena Suvari (American Beauty), Kevin Pollak (The Usual Suspects), Megan West (The is Us), Jon Abrahams (Scary Movie) and Annalisa Cochrane (Cobra Kai).

This movie had some potential but badly misses the mark. This actually has a good cast but the film doesn't focus on those characters enough and instead focuses on the less established cast members. Many of the horror elements are shot too dark and the kills do not have enough gore to my preference. The full circle ending to the storyline was actually pretty good and made the execution even more disappointing.

Overall this is one of those movies where the idea behind it is good but the execution falls short. I would score this movie a 3/10 and recommend skipping it.

Deciding to go on a trip, a group of friends breaks up their potential wedding celebration to test an app that lets them talk with the dead, but when this leads them to an abandoned castle nearby long-held secrets and ghostly visitors come out to haunt them forcing the remaining group to try to solve them and get out alive.

This one was rather terrible as even its enjoyable elements have problems. When this one works best is the final half where the group spends a vast majority of time wandering around the truly creepy location. The endless hallways, darkened settings, strange behavioral modification devices left behind for them to explore provide genuine chills throughout here, and the scenes with their involvement here are quite energetic at ties. However, even these are problematic as they're overly familiar by relying on egregiously bad musical stings to denote something lurking in the shadows or a false scare of someone coming up suddenly. Even worse, none of them have on-screen deaths with any blood or gore except the aftermath which is quite frustrating overall. Beyond that, there are some pretty big flaws found here. One of the biggest stumbling blocks is the motivation for sending them to the asylum, which is completely overlooked and makes no sense. A sensory glance at the crime scene where we're inferred led them there is not done by the kids and an investigation into it easily reveals they had nothing to do with it. That goes for the main game app as well, which is given no idea how the individual touching the screen allows them to go off on a wild scavenger hunt in the area for a deceased relative. This is a process usually reserved for DNA testing and not something done by downloading a connection made over the dark web which this supposedly passes off as the reasoning for this. The other problem with this one is the fact that there's just nothing interesting going on for a large majority of the running time. The extended prologue is way too long and takes forever which also manages to highlight the egregious and outright false real-life instances it's using as inspiration. The trip to the grandmothers' house where nothing creepy or chilling happens proves to be a huge waste of time and energy focusing on doing nothing but highlighting the already unlikable leads playing the soon-to-be-married couple who are utterly uninteresting, have no chemistry at all with each other, spend the entire time fighting solely to make him an unrelatable prick to the point where everyone questions why they're together. Alongside the other flaws, these all hold this one down considerably.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language and Violence.

This movie was really really bad. There was absolutely nothing that saved it - acting and special effects were both pathetic. Please don't waste your time or money or believe the high scorings.

The first fifteen minutes made me believe I was in for a gritty and chilling horror flick. Not so much. Fast forward two decades and we have a predictable, completely unoriginal "group of twenty-somethings in a haunted building" movie. Not scary. Boring. A big let down after what seemed like a good start.

I Enjoyed the movie! Love that it was filmed locally at and around Preston Castle in Ione Ca. It's not your Star Wars massive budget movie, but has some really talented actors and actresses. It's a scary thriller and not a gory blood bath mutilation type film. The cinematography crew did a terrific job making the story come alive. I would recommend this movie

Now, let me start on a more positive note with this one, it is clearly not a work of art or even a good horror experience, but surely enough not the worst one either. A fair and decent effort, everyone took their roles seriously, did the best they could do, we had a few known actors and that is about it.

The subject, clearly overused without adding a personal touch to it, the acting ok, death shots are missing overall, and the ending itself is one that you have seen most likely 100 times by now. So are there reasons to recommend this? Well, excepting the actors, those that managed to create a career, behind Apparition there are people involved in the making of it and are also trying to make a name for themselves. And for that alone, I will appreciate what they did with the rather small budget, without relying on gore, torture porn or dragging the movie for too long.

All in all, it is a movie that will fly under the radar for sure. Not too much to see really, but certainly not a complete mess.

It was not a good movie. really bad acting, dialogue and plot was poor.

It was advertised as a ghost story set in a castle. In the first 12 minutes a mother abuses her children. She gets stabbed, they get sent to a reform school where one is beat up and mutilated by guards, and a woman gets verbally abused for trying to comfort him. In 12 MINUTES!! Whoever wrote and directed this movie, and those who funded it, need to be sent to that reform school for serious adjustment.
