Nowadays, in the era of the prominent box office domination of the superhero movie franchises, made by Marvel, DC and other studios, it’s hard to amaze the audience with a movie following a person with supernatural abilities. The subgenre starts to repeat itself and to use the same tropes in every subsequent movie again and again.
Back in 1999, there was a star-studded comedy that made fun of the typical superhero movies long before the Avengers fever and even before Prime Video’s The Boys series, also appearing to be a satire to the MCU and other films about courageous supermen.
Its plot focuses on the tragedy happening in the fictional Champion City: it lost its main defender, a superhero named Captain Amazing. He was relentlessly captured by the villain Casanova Frankenstein, and it leaves the town in a vulnerable position.
However, it’s a perfect moment for other supermen...

The Young and the Restless (Y&r) spoilers reveal that Peter Bergman is talking about how his character Jack Abbott risked his life, and plundered his sobriety, for Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott).
The plotline is red hot, and fans are deliciously divided as to whether Jack is a jerk or a hero. The May 2 episode was a standalone of sorts, featuring only these two characters.
The scenes were gut wrenching and both actors could win Emmy’s for their first-rate performances. Here’s what the actor himself has to say about the controversial storyline.
The Young And The Restless Spoilers – Jack Abbott Is A Hero?
Jack is Nikki’s AA sponsor and last week he made a rushed decision to save her life by drinking with her. Wait, it gets better.

Creating a roller coaster worthy of a 10-film series whose titles revolve around the words “Fast” and “Furious” is no small task.
The folks at Universal Studios Hollywood seem to have taken the challenge seriously, introducing today “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift,” which they promise will include a “groundbreaking 360-degree rotation of the individual ride vehicles as they rocket along an elaborate track.” The goal is to create a sensation of drifting cars as guests spin in motion at furiously fast speeds.
It’s the park’s first high-speed outdoor roller coaster, and Universal pledges “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift,” will “elevate the guest experience with innovative and technological achievements never previously employed in a roller coaster.”
It’s set to debut in 2026.

Sony’s Columbia Pictures announced a live-action film way back in 2020 and the progress has been really slow on the project. Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner were initially signed on as writers, but the latest reports suggest that Rick and Morty writers Dan Harmon and Heather Anne Campbell are rewriting the script.

Irrfan Rejected Christopher Nolan For A Film Whose Oscar Snub Made Many Furious, But It Was A Smart Decision! ( Photo Credit – IMDb; Facebook )

Given how outlandish and enormous the "Fast & Furious" film series would eventually become, it's a little mind-boggling to remember that Rob Cohen's 2001 original, "The Fast and the Furious," was little more than a mid-budget "Point Break" knockoff. The story goes that star Paul Walker, having enjoyed working with Cohen on the 2000 college thriller "The Skulls" was asked what his dream action project would be. Walker said that he wanted to appear in an action movie mashup of "Days of Thunder" and "Donnie Brasco." That is: something with fast cars, but also a cop who goes undercover to infiltrate the criminal underground. The subsequent screenplay, written by Gary Scott Thompson, drew inspiration from a 1998 article in Vibe Magazine all about the New York underground racing scene. David Ayer was brought in to work on a draft, and he changed the setting to Los Angeles and made the cast more diverse.

John Oliver became the first late night host to officially return on Sunday night, kicking off a new season of “Last Week Tonight” with his writers fully onboard. Naturally, he addressed the 146-day strike pretty quickly, applauding the guild for getting their deal, and calling out the studios for how long it took to offer it.
“While I’m happy they eventually got a fair deal and immensely proud of what our union accomplished, but I’m also furious that it took the studios 148 days to achieve a deal that they could have offered on day f—ing one,” Oliver said.
Though hiatus time was built into most of the late night shows, they were still off for several months, meaning the hosts couldn’t cover the biggest stories happening. To rectify that, Oliver effectively did a speed run of the news, particularly piling onto Rep. Lauren Boebert’s ouster from “Beetlejuice” last month,...

Fifty years into hip-hop, we've gotten used to decades of headlines proclaiming the genre's culture is homophobic and misogynistic - that generations of queer talents were forced to the peripheries and into closets until today's mega star rappers like Tyler, the Creator, Lil Nas X, and Cardi B busted down the doors to a new chapter. But that's not actually the full story of queer people in hip-hop. They've been at the forefront and in the underground innovating the genre since it started. Back in hip-hop's adolescence - when it was as playful, juvenile, and wacky as the kids breathing life into it on the playground - hip-hop was more fluid.

On the surface, the whimsy of Pee-wee’s Playhouse appears to be worlds apart from the solemnity of Boyz N the Hood, other than the curious resemblance between Cowboy Curtis and Furious Styles. But it’s no coincidence that Laurence Fishburne and other key creatives were part of both projects.
As a USC film student in the late 1980s, John Singleton spent one summer working as a security guard-slash-production assistant on the set of Pee-wee’s Playhouse. “John was the lowest of lowly PAs,” recalled Fishburne on Late Night with Conan O’Brien in 1995. “He was working on the door and his job was to stop people at the door and go, ‘Are you supposed to be here? As a USC film student in the late 1980s, John Singleton spent one summer working as a security guard-slash-production assistant on the set of Pee-wee’s Playhouse. “John was the lowest of lowly PAs,” recalled Fishburne on Late Night with Conan O’Brien in 1995. “He was working on the door and his job was to stop people at the door and go, ‘Are you supposed to be here? Do you have the proper ID?’”

Mr. Vin Diesel has made a name for himself playing monotone bruisers; big guys who look like they want to smash your skull in if you get in your way. But he's also a family man when it comes to the "Fast and Furious" films. He's also been a talking tree, a sci-fi warrior, a mobster, a military grunt in a Steven Spielberg movie, and more. While Diesel seems solely committed to playing Dom in the "Furious" saga these days, we shouldn't forget about his other work, some of which is quite good (and others ... not).
To get to the bottom of what Diesel's best role is, we here at /Film asked our readers to weigh in. Then we compiled the results in a special, massive supercomputer. The results may actually surprise you. They kind of surprised me! So let's take a look at Vin Diesel's best roles, starting at the bottom.

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani connected during NBC’s The Voice Season 7, and they turned out to be the perfect match. The country singer and the rock star were going through parallel divorces when they initially met, which only served to strengthen their bond. Now, Shelton’s stepping away from coaching The Voice Season 24 while Stefani is stepping back into the spotlight. Here’s what Shelton said about why Stefani thought NBC wouldn’t want her without him.
Gwen Stefani didn’t think NBC would want her coaching ‘The Voice’ without Blake Shelton
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are two huge names in music, and many fans didn’t see a romance coming for The Voice coaches. The two met and connected while working on the NBC series in 2014. Stefani was going through a divorce with Gavin Rossdale, and Shelton and Miranda Lambert were also in the middle of their split.

Actor Jason Statham was recruited not too long ago in Vin Diesel’s popular Fast and Furious franchise. But before he signed up, he had reservations about playing the antagonist in the movies.

Statham’s role as Deckard Shaw in the Fast and Furious franchise wasn’t exactly set in stone. His character was initially brought on board on a test run. Based on fan response and excitement, he was written as a permanent part of the series.
“Apparently, they got a really good reaction, so they decided to pursue bringing me back and putting me in a proper role,” he once told Vulture.

So, where does it say that only the big studio blockbusters can rattle the multiplex over the first big holiday weekend of the Summer cinema season? Certainly, there’s a bit of room away from the Furious fellas’ and the MCU. That’s what this flick is hoping for as Gerard Butler continues his quest to be the lower-tier action star, much like the Cannon crew did in the “go-go” 1980s (after Arnold and Sly there was Chuck and Claude). For this thiller-diller we travel to a real “hot spot” (in more ways than one) for a desert tale of undercover capers and narrow escapes. You see, everyone’s after Mr. B, so he’s got to somehow make it outta’ there via Kandahar. Heads up for lotsa’ sand and sweat!
It all does begin in the desert of Iran as a foreign tech crew is upgrading the area to high-speed internet.

At the climax of Justin Lin's 2011 film "Fast Five," Dom (Vin Diesel) and Brian (Paul Walker) break into a bank in Rio de Janeiro with their souped-up muscle cars, attach cables to a massive bank vault belonging to a dangerous crime lord, and haul the entire 12-ton vault out into the street. Their cars are powerful enough that they can tow the vault at high speeds through the streets. Dom and Brian drive off, careening around corners, swinging the disembodied vault into storefronts or into pursuing police vehicles.
Not only is it one of the more astonishing action sequences in the series, but it proved to be a turning point for it as well. After "Fast Five," the "Furious" movies became larger and more elaborate than ever before, each chapter working hard to outstrip the last. When Rob Cohen made "The Fast and the Furious" in 2001, he couldn't possibly have known that it would eventually spawn one of the largest film franchises of all time. The original film was downright modest, even wispy, when compared to some of the more recent chapters in the overblown "Furious" franchise. In it, an LAPD cop named Johnny Utah ... er, I mean Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) goes undercover in the strange and ultra-cool world of surfers ... er, I mean L.A. street racers to track down and arrest their ringleader Bodhi ... er, I mean Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) for a recent rash of high-profile thefts. Michelle Rodriguez appeared as Letty, Dom's girlfriend, and Jordana Brewster played Mia, Dom's sister and Brian's would-be paramour.
Over the course of the film's many sequels, Letty and Mia would eventually play larger and larger parts in the story and finally be allowed to do more than fall in love,...

It is the beginning of the end for the Fast Saga as "Fast X" has hit theaters, serving as the first part in what will be a two-film finale to the long-running series. Though Vin Diesel has indicated that it could turn into a trilogy. In any event, Universal Pictures is beginning to wind things down with Dom Toretto and the gang. As expected, that means a lot of familiar faces from the past are going to reappear before all is said and done. But one wildly unexpected face did make a return, albeit in a very "blink and you'll miss it" sort of way. Depending on how things shake out, it does suggest a possible, more meaningful return in "Fast & Furious 11."

The villain of Louis Leterrier's new film "Fast X" is a foppish chaos agent named Dante, played with aplomb by handsome superstar Jason Momoa. Dante is the son of Hernan Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida), the drug kingpin villain from "Fast Five," and he is on a quest to avenge his father's death. Dante, however, is an energetic Joker-like kook who is more interested in harassing and torturing Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) than merely killing him. His plans don't stand up to scrutiny -- how could Dante have known that the heroes would arrive at certain, exact places right when he wanted them to, for instance? -- but the clunky, fun idiocy is part of the film's overall charm.
There is one thing Dante does in "Fast X," however, that should have given him even greater advantages over Dom and his family. Near the beginning of the film's third act,...

Spoilers for "Fast X" follow.
Marvel Comics has long been notorious for dramatically killing off its star characters, only to resurrect them at a later date. Thanks to the byzantine machinations of superhero stories -- Time travel! Parallel universes! Sorcerer's magic! Cosmic deities! Clones! -- death has become resolutely impermanent for them. If anything, death is a mere inconvenience for a superhero, and they may just have to wait it out before an Infinity Stone or a time machine retrieves them from oblivion. One of the only Marvel characters that has stayed 100% dead in every iteration is Spider-Man's Uncle Ben. If Uncle Ben didn't die, then Spider-Man would not be motivated to become a superhero. And yes, there are some other minor Marvel characters who remain in the ground, but few miss, say, Thunderstrike.
Marvel's lack of death carried over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a rather disappointing way.

Louis Leterrier's new film, "Fast X," is wonderfully enjoyable hooey stuffed with explosions, chases, and acts of vehicular manslaughter that defy the laws of physics. It also boasts one of the largest celebrity casts in the "Fast and Furious" series, assembling most all of the familiar faces from previous chapters, as well as a few Oscar winners to boot; the film stars Rita Moreno, Charlize Theron, Brie Larson, and Helen Mirren. All told, there are at least 17 main characters. Also, in addition to Vin Diesel and his crew, the filmmakers also included several notable cameos from "Furious" actors who haven't been seen in a few films.
For Dom (Diesel), "Fast X" ends on a nail-biting cliffhanger as an evil villain named Dante (Jason Momoa) has trapped him right next to a dam that he intends to blow up. A plane just crashed,...

One might recall that Louis Leterrier was not the original director of "Fast X." As reported by /Film back in April of 2022, Justin Lin stepped away from the project due to "creative differences," and the production had to scramble to find a new director. Lin, it should be noted, directed the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and ninth entries in the series. Shooting briefly continued without a director -- the fight scene between Michelle Rodriguez and Charlize Theron was reportedly overseen only by the second unit -- before Leterrier, the action director behind films like "The Transporter 2," and "The Incredible Hulk," stepped in.
Luckily, Leterrier took to "Fast X" very quickly, and one would not be able to tell that there was any turmoil. The finished film is slick, dumb, and just as exciting as any of the previous chapters in the saga.

Louis Leterrier's new film "Fast X," the eleventh film in the "Fast and Furious" saga, may not have been spoiled yet for you, dear reader. Although you may have heard that the film features at least one -- possibly more -- cameo from known "Furious" characters, there's actually an appearance from someone you likely aren't expecting at all.
Yes, this is a post about a one-off comedian cameo that will likely stay safely within the walls of the film in which he appears. A star of "Bodies Bodies Bodies" and "Saturday Night Live" makes a brief appearance in one scene of "Fast X" as a drug-adjacent, fast-talking varlet that some of our heroes encounter. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Pete Davidson.

As the "Fast & Furious" movies have accumulated over the years, they have undergone a strange evolution. Some might even call it a mutation. When it started out in 2001, "The Fast and the Furious" was a mere mid-budget "Point Break" knockoff set in the high-octane world of Los Angeles street racing. It was beautiful actors driving fast cars and a transparent excuse to film women in short shorts. By the fifth film in the series, "Fast Five," the franchise had unwittingly constructed an ensemble of superheroic characters and had brazenly left physics in the dust. No longer race movies or heist movies, the "Furious" series had come to occupy the overblown espionage genre. By "Fast Five," the features had more in common with the "Mission: Impossible" movies or James Bond than they did with their direct progenitors.
With "Fast X," the 11th film in the series, the franchise has only gotten bigger and bigger.

Whether you're a fan of the Fast and Furious movie franchise or not, you likely have at least one of the franchise's hit songs from its over 20-year history on your playlists. From hip-hop and pop to reggaeton and rock, the Fast Saga's music is at once eclectic and instantly iconic. Songs like Ludacris's "Act a Fool" have been nominated for Grammys, while Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth's emotional tribute to Paul Walker, "See You Again," is the sixth-most-viewed music video of all time on YouTube, with nearly six billion views.

Vin Diesel starred in James Gunn's 2014 film, "Guardians of the Galaxy," as the voice of Groot, a humanoid tree made of moss and bark. Groot is only capable of saying one phrase, "I am Groot," which his closest friends seem to understand — Rocket Racoon (Bradley Cooper) seems to interpret this phrase liberally. Diesel managed to do a lot with only three words of dialogue, adding sentimentality to the character that, in conjunction with the motion capture performance provided by Krystian Godlewski, won the hearts of many fans. As of 2023, Diesel has played Groot or Groot's offspring, Baby Groot, in four different "Guardians" projects, in two "Avengers" films, in "Thor: Love and Thunder," and in the animated series "I Am Groot."
Famously, Diesel played Groot in every non-English language dub of the above projects as well. He was deeply committed to the role.
In a 2014 interview with the Independent, Diesel revealed why.

"Fast X," which is set to hit theaters on May 19, will mark the beginning of the end of the Fast and Furious franchise. Initially, the series was meant to wrap up with a two-part finale. However, at the "Fast X" premiere in Rome, Italy, on May 12, Vin Diesel, who's led the franchise as Dominic Toretto since 2001, teased the movies could end with a trilogy instead. Although he didn't officially confirm or deny anything, his co-star Michelle Rodriguez (Letty Ortiz) fueled the rumors by telling Fandango, "It's three acts in any story."
If it's true, then the series will officially end after 13 movies. Castmembers like Diesel, Rodriguez, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and Ludacris have starred in the majority of the "Fast and Furious" films, while Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham led the 2019 spinoff film "Hobbs & Shaw." Here’s hoping the most hilarious moments aren’t in the over-the-top, action-packed trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures’ Meg 2: The Trench. The stunts have a Fast and Furious feel – they are implausible yet impressive – and the plot surpasses the first film, The Meg (2018), in terms of megalodon encounters. In the original movie, Jason Statham battled a colossal sea creature, but in the sequel, there are not one, not two, but three Megs for Statham and crew to take on.
Statham’s joined in this wild adventure by Wu Jing, Sophia Cai, Page Kennedy, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Skyler Samuels, and Cliff Curtis.

Eightyseven North brought a stunt dance crew and motorcycles onstage toward the finale of Universal’s CinemaCon presentation for the 2024 movie The Fall Guy. Quite often the studios here at CinemaCon keep it confined to showing off 2023 product, but Uni wanted to give exhibitors in the room something more.
Following the Fast X sequence of the Uni presentation, a stage crew begin setting up various elements onstage. Initially, it appeared to morph into a dance crew, but then it turned into a staged fight among stunt folks with sticks, coupled with some doing gymnastics.
Then Fall Guy director David Leitch called Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling onstage.
“Should we put on pads? We’re just actors, Dave, we stand here and just take credit for that,” said Gosling about the stunt show.
“We don’t do that kind of horseplay,” Blunt added.

After ten films in the Fast & Furious series, an eleventh immediately nigh, and a twelfth on the docket, one might see some themes beginning to emerge. Guys, I think these movies might be about family.
"Fast X," due in theaters on May 19, promises to be the largest yet, a pattern that this series has followed since its first chapter in 2001. With the "Fast X" budget rising to $340 million, the tenth installment in the franchise will unite no fewer than 17 characters, and sport a villain (Jason Momoa) seeking revenge for his murdered father, the villain of "Fast Five." Judging by the "Fast X" trailer, all the series' usually enjoyable absurdities appear to be intact, including a trek around the globe and a general hatred of the laws of physics. One can be assured this film will be just as goofy and entertaining as the last few have been.

Looking back over the "Fast & Furious" movies, it's astonishing how far they have evolved. In 2021's "F9," two characters literally launched a car into space. This was followed by a scene where the central team of stunt drivers equipped their cars with powerful electromagnets that could pull entire washing machines out of storefronts in order to fling them at enemy pursuers. Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his crew are more or less unkillable at this point, a detail that the characters were wise enough to acknowledge; Chris "Ludacris" Bridges points out that they may all actually be immortal.
Looking back to Rob Cohen's 2001 original film, "The Fast and the Furious," one finds a very, very modest beginning. "The Fast and the Furious" is essentially a mid-budget "Point Break" knockoff about ultra-cool fast-driving thieves who do nothing more sinister than boost DVD players from delivery trucks. Vin Diesel as Dom Toretto in F9, co-written and directed by Justin Lin. When The Fast and the Furious opened in theaters in 2001, we’re guessing there wasn’t a single person who could have predicted that, in the year 2023, we’d be talking about the release of what is believed to be the franchise finale. But here we are, anticipating the 10th movie in the series, Fast X, which is said to be part one of a two-part conclusion. Vin Diesel, who has appeared in all but one of the Fast & Furious films, once spoke to us about the challenge of being a human actor in a film where the focus is really on the cars. A group of hip-hop visionaries took the stage at Sunday night’s Grammys for a performance in tribute to the 50th anniversary of the hip-hop genre.
Queen Latifah, Run-dmc, Lil Wayne, Big Boi, Missy Elliott, Public Enemy and Busta Rhymes were among those that took part in the celebration.
Questlove produced the show, and music was provided by The Roots.
LL Cool J introduced the segment by awarding Dr. Dre with a 2023 Global Impact Award.
“I’m extremely moved by this award,” Dr. Dre said during his acceptance speech. “Where would a lot of people in this room be without hip-hop,” later adding that he hopes the ceremony will inspire young artists.
LL Cool J then passed the show on to Questlove and Black Thought.
“Questlove has curated something spectacular, a flash-forward through a half-century of one of the greatest ongoing musical stories ever told,” the rapper said.

It's difficult to overstate the immediate and overwhelming effect that Wes Craven's 1996 film "Scream" had on pop culture. By the mid-1990s the slasher genre had pretty much come to an end. The most popular monsters of the 1980s were being deliberately killed off, as "Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare" and "Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday" seemingly closed the door on their respective franchises. The slasher series that continued started to die of fatigue, as seen in clunky, underwhelming films like "Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers" and "Hellraiser: Bloodline."
Then, in December of '96, "Scream" came out and a new trend was immediately born. The Kevin Williamson-scripted "Scream" was a slasher movie, yes, but it was populated by teenage characters who all knew -- and spoke openly about -- the tropes of slasher movies. Everyone was wry, sarcastic, and understood the metafictional situation they occupied.
