from the heart

I'm not sure exactly why I enjoyed this movie so much. Partially, probably, because I'm a writer and live in Pennsylvania. I was also on my own at a very young age and lived in NYC for many years as a starving artist. So, I guess I just answered my own question. I related to this child/woman on a profoundly deep level. The difference is, not only is she a good writer, but she completes an entire piece of art in a matter of seconds. not fair, but an inspiration all the same.

in any event, I latched onto this film immediately and didn't let go. It was shot beautifully and edited perfectly... I sort of just floated along for the ride. There was a darkness attached to Abbie I couldn't quite identify. I hope she's still out there somewhere, happy and in love, but with a roof over her head and a peaceful relationship with her parents.type on, Abbie. If life hasn't given you a break yet, hang on, it will eventually.

understated and beautiful.

Charming with a capital C. The life of any street artist is always a David and Goliath struggle, but it seems even more so when that artist is a poet. Loved the warm lighting of the nights scenes (a nice departure from the usual cool tones filmmakers gravitate to for night shots). The lead actress' performance is lovely and endearing. While it's not what makes a movie work, even the trailer was refreshing in that it conveyed the story without one word of dialog.

Take Time to Watch This

Eclectic feel of real indie film and a documentary to boot. Enjoyed the visuals and felt the struggles. Take time to watch this one. A unique, nicely paced documentary about a street poet. Documentaries aren't my thing but this one is really worth checking out! Nothing run of the mill about this.

Wonderful documentary about a young, busking poet

A PLACE OF TRUTH (2013)

This documentary shadows twenty-one year old busking street poet Abi Mott's life on the road. I had to see this as it combines many of my favorite topics: slice-of-life and character study stories, busking, poetry, and life on the road. Abi is a creative soul who radiates authenticity, has a gift for connecting with people, and seems to truly exist in the moment . As a businesswoman, her pitch is, "Name a price. Pick a subject. Get a poem." After a breakup leads her to San Francisco where her nomadic journey begins, we travel with her to several destinations, including New Orleans, as she wheels around her portable workspace searching for suitable spaces to share her art. Her thoughtful, life affirming, individually requested poems are good to excellent, move her customers, and are written instantly on a vintage typewriter. In Abi's words, "I'll write you a poem. I'm not going to tell you it's the best poem you've ever read, but it will be true to... now." If these topics resonate with you, I recommend this fine film.

Beautiful documentary

Everybody has a story, some more unconventional than others. Everybody has their "truth", something that is real, meaningful, challenging, and inspiring for them. Abi Mott's story is brave and beautiful. "A Place of Truth" is a well-produced documentary telling that story with a lot of hope, inspiration, and authenticity. Nicely done!
