Jeremy Webb directed this amazing and suspenseful episode, it's a build-up to the mid season finale
Holt3442 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The BAFTA and Emmy nominated director, Jeremy Webb directed this fine episode. He's a really good and talented director which you will notice in this episode. The episode's plot is focusing on the Ranch again and the feud between Otto's Ranch and Qaletaqa Walker and his group, two plot points you have to remember in this episode is that Troy killed the family that wanted to go away front he ranch and Madison blamed Walker and the other plot point is Jake going to Walker to negotiate, this is truly a suspenseful episode. Ofelia Salazar makes her return after episode 2,14 which was the last time we saw her. In this episode we also learn more backstory of Walker and the story is far from black and white, no one is evil. If you dislike the slow paced negotiation then you'll like the second part of the episode, it's suspenseful and pays off immensely all the character development we have gotten of Fear's 3rd season.

The acting is superb in this episode, from everyone but Alycia Debnam-Carey and Michael Greyeyes stood out the most, they shared scenes with each other and they are incredible.

The cinematography, sound editing and music is always at its best.

Next episode is the mid-season finale, usually something really eventful happens then. But this was a great episode, incredible even but it serves more as a buildup episode to something amazing.

Ofelia is back!!! Another excelent episode
MomentIMDB23 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
My general opinion of the episode is that it is very epic and interesting. In the previous chapter, Jack decided to go to Walker and Alice followed. In black hat, Alice meets Ophelia, great! Jack makes a deal with Walker, Alice stays and Ophelia leaves with Jack. I loved how Jack controlled things, that made him even more interesting and strong. Madison and Troy dissatisfied, Madison because Walker has Alice and Troy because Walker and his entire group want him dead. Alice and Walker have a very interesting and well-built talk and help us to empathize with Walker, since his character is not a villain, only because of the circumstances. I loved the black hat attack and it was one of the best parts, but at the same time the worst decision made by Troy and Madison, but understandable and realistic. Jack then suffers the consequences when returning to black hat receiving a beating and a cut in the forehead. At this point the tension is very large. then Ophelia arrives at the ranch all beaten. the last scene was the best, Ophelia was in charge of feeding the army, as a very smart move by walker, he used Ophelia as a pawn in his chess game, in order to harm the army. When those in the army start to get sick, I get goosebumps, no doubt incredible.

Storyline: Jake heads through the wilderness on his way to the Black Hat Reservation, hoping to parley with Walker. He begins to hear footsteps on the trail. Jake takes cover in the brush, and pops out to confront his pursuer.

He discovers that Alicia is the one on his tail. She's come to tell him that Walker killed the Trimbols. She warns him against talking to a killer like Walker, but Jake refuses to abandon his mission. Alicia decides to join him.

Alicia and Jake arrive at the Black Hat Cafe. They're surrounded by armed guards who confiscate their weapons. Walker emerges, machete in hand, and drops a severed pig's head on the ground in front of them.

Back at the ranch, Madison informs Nick that Alicia is missing. Jeremiah remarks that Jake is gone as well. Nick offers to go after Alicia and Jake, but Jeremiah suggests he train with Troy before embarking on such a dangerous mission. Besides, Jake always comes back.

Jake and Alicia join Walker for lunch. Walker looks confused when Alicia calls him out for killing the Trimbols. Jake asks Walker to honor their prior court agreements and end the violence. Walker refuses, saying that court decisions are no longer relevant. He orders Jake to vacate Black Hat territory, but agrees to parley after their meal. Alicia is surprised to see that the woman serving their food is Ofelia.

Nick signs up for Troy's militia, and pointedly tells Troy that he wants to protect himself from whoever killed the Trimbols. Troy gives him a gun.

Ofelia apologizes to Alicia for abandoning the group at the Rosarito Beach Hotel. She says that Walker took her in, and insists the Black Hat natives are good people. Alicia points out that Walker killed a family two nights ago, but Ofelia insists that Walker did not carry out any missions at that time. As proof, she states that Walker was with her.

Jake informs Alicia that Walker agreed to a parley. He asks Alicia to return to the ranch, so she can tell Jeremiah that Walker will refrain from further violence, in exchange for a tribute and a hostage swap. He offers to stay behind as Walker's hostage. However, Alicia insists that Walker take her so that Jake can personally deliver the terms to Jeremiah.

Nick cuts his hair and tells Madison he's keeping his enemies close, referring to Troy.

Jake returns to the ranch with Ofelia, his hostage. Madison yells at him for leaving Alicia with Walker, but Jake assures her that Walker will honor the hostage swap, and keep Alicia safe.

Walker proudly shows Alicia the helicopter that they shot down. Alicia tells Walker she was in the chopper when it went down, and that he killed one of her family. Walker compares her contempt for him with the hatred he feels toward the Ottos. Alicia tells him he can't know how she feels.

Jake tells Jeremiah that Walker agreed to end the violence, in exchange for bottled water. Madison worries about Alicia's safety, but Jake reassures her that Alicia is safe.

Walker shows the skull of his great-grandfather to Alicia, explaining that they had to desecrate their ancestors' graves to save their bodies from the Ottos. He says that Black Hat relics prophesied an apocalypse that would shed the land of the impure, and return the land to his people.

Madison asks Troy to help rescue Alicia. Troy hesitates, preferring to see how Jake's parley plays out. Madison points out that he owes her a favor for not turning the ranch against him.

Ofelia paces around the ranch pantry. Jeremiah joins her and maintains that no one wants war. He asks her not to complicate matters with "old business", alluding to when he attacked her at the border. Ofelia agrees.

Troy, Nick and several militia soldiers sneak into Black Hat headquarters and rescue Alicia. Nick spots a guard approaching, and tackles him. Troy shoots the guard, and gunfire breaks out. Madison picks up Alicia and the rescue team with a truck.

Madison's group returns to the ranch. Jake admonishes them for essentially declaring war on Walker's nation. Madison admits that she convinced Troy to help save Alicia, and accuses Jake of getting played by Walker.

The next day, Jake packs water to bring to Walker. Troy worries about Jake's safety, but Jake leaves anyway.

Alicia tells Ofelia that she doesn't have to go back to Walker. Ofelia warns Alicia to leave the ranch.

Jake brings the water to Black Hat, and insists it was Troy's idea to rescue Alicia. Walker is unmoved, and starts to scalp Jake. However, Ofelia stops him at the last second. Walker threatens to kill Jake and Troy in front of their father, and then burn Jeremiah alive.

A Black Hat messenger dumps Ofelia at the ranch gate. The blood and bruises on her face indicate that she was beaten.

Jeremiah, Madison, Jake and Troy question Ofelia, who claims that Walker kicked her off the reservation because he suspected her of aiding in Alicia's rescue. A guard takes her to the infirmary to treat her wounds. Madison regrets letting Ofelia return to Walker, as she promised Daniel that she would look after her.

Madison tells Ofelia she can stay at the ranch. Ofelia accepts, and offers to help in the kitchen.

Troy orders his militia to guard the perimeter for the next 48 hours.

In the bunkhouse, Alicia asks Madison how they can be sure that Walker killed the Trimbols. Madison doesn't answer.

On the perimeter, the militia soldiers start to scream and vomit. Cooper calls a medic on his walkie.

Madison and Alicia wake up to the sound of screams. They run outside. Ofelia lingers behind.

Cooper tries to radio Jimmie, but Jimmie is laying dead by the perimeter fence. He begins to reanimate.

Cooper runs through the camp, urging people to get inside their tents. He is attacked by an infected Jimmie.

Madison, Nick and Alicia slaughter the infected, which now overrun the camp. Nick calls out to Ofelia, who is standing in the bunkhouse doorway. Rather than respond, she runs away. Nick then falls to the ground in pain, and realizes that Ofelia is responsible for the illness. Madison chases after Ofelia.

The episode explores deeper into the fragile alliances and the enduring hostilities between the different survivor groups
fernandoschiavi16 April 2024
Jake and Alicia arrive at Black Hat, where Alicia discovers Ofelia to be alive and allied with Walker's tribe after they took her in. While refusing to their original agreement, Walker agrees to a parley, Ofelia leaves with Jake while Alicia remains until he returns. While Madison forces Troy to send men to retrieve Alicia which results in several of Walker's men dead. Despite Jake's attempts to mend the truce, Walker has him beaten and Ofelia cast out. Given a job in the kitchen, she cooks a meal for the militia. The men, including Nick, get sick or die from as a result. Madison realizes it was Ofelia's doing and stops her from escaping to beat her senseless.

"The Unveiling," the seventh episode of the third season of "Fear the Walking Dead," intensifies the tensions and lays the groundwork for an impending conflict. This episode is pivotal as it explores deeper into the fragile alliances and the enduring hostilities between the different survivor groups.

The episode begins with Jake's attempt to negotiate peace with Walker and his group, which sets the tone for a narrative focused on diplomacy versus direct confrontation. Alicia plays a crucial role in this episode, acting as a bridge between the two factions. Her efforts to foster peace are central to the plot, showcasing her evolution from a background character to a leader. The tensions reach a boiling point when Jake's plans are undermined by members within his own group, illustrating the internal discord that threatens their survival as much as external threats.

One of the episode's most striking scenes is the secret exchange between Troy and Madison, where Troy's unstable nature and Madison's manipulative tactics come to light. This interaction not only highlights Madison's growing prowess in navigating the post-apocalyptic politics but also sets up Troy as a wildcard, capable of igniting a war. The cinematography in these scenes effectively conveys the brewing storm, using dim lighting and close-up shots to intensify the feeling of claustrophobia and looming disaster.

Moreover, "The Unveiling" aptly depicts the moral ambiguities faced by the characters. Each decision is shaded with grey, complicating the viewer's understanding of right and wrong. This is particularly evident in the episode's climax, where a violent encounter leads to a significant character's death, challenging the survivors' moral compasses and viewer loyalties alike.

An All Out War Is Coming?
panagiotis199319 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Jake trying to negotiate with the enemy is definitely a risky idea. Wait what? Is Ofelia now part of that Indian tribe? I didn't expect that. Damn Nick's long hair is gone, it will take some time to get used to that. I agree with Otto, this tribe are savages, at least their leader is, I wouldn't negotiate with him. I like how Walker believes in his ancestors' post-apocalyptic prophecies. I love how the tribe's leader is called ''Walker'' haha. Troy and his men ready to attack, things are about get heated. Oh boy that was good. Now an all out war is inevitable. Wow Jake after all of this still thinks there is a chance for peace? No way. Walker doesn't trust Ofelia now? He's paranoid as hell? Wow what was that ending? Zombies everywhere, soldiers vomiting, absolute hell. Was Ofelia behind this though or not? Really good episode, my rating is 7.5/10.

Morons. Just morons.
Pimilli20 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I don't buy that MADISON WOULD BE SO IDIOTIC. They had a parlay. Give it a minute. So Madison (who has the acting range of a tuna sandwich) says lets go in there and start a war. WRITERS COME TO YOUR SENSES. THIS DEFIES LOGIC. Writers please ask yourself why anyone would leave a camp, with water, with food, with protection from an ARMY...to go out into the wild to fight walkers. Writers...THINK. Stop trying to make drama that doesn't make sense. NOBODY IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD LEAVE THAT CAMP. PEOPLE WOULD GIVE THEIR GRANDMOTHERS TO STAY IN THE CAMP. Think before you write and ask yourself. Really ask yourself "Would I do that?"

And the ridiculousness continues...
mark-ruddle23 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
....and the train just keeps on rolling. Maddison continues to make every selfish decision imaginable at every given opportunity under the guise of doing it all for her family (fetch me a sick bucket) but somehow manages to not die herself.

A militia that is about as much use as a bar of lard on sunburn. Everyone else just sitting back and enjoying the poor decision making. I've watched POV porn with better story content.

Come on "The Dead" just kill them all pls!!!

Weird decisions
nikodemkolka13 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Madison with the dumbass decision making as always decides to do a suicide mission beacuse she has a patience of a 5 year old. Jake despite knowing that a peace offer is far gone still tried to do? I don't even know what he was trying, I mean it obviously wouldn't work so he just wasted resources. And why did they let Ofelia into the pantry, they just started trusting her because they beat her up and left her? Come on. Other than that it was a suspenseful episode with some cool action, walker is a cool villain but the decision making in this episode was quite terrible I hope in the future Madison will try to not be so selfish and bland.

I wonder why i keep watching this , while I don't like any of the characters.

Actually I liked Alycia Debnam Carey from "the 100" .

But actually the character of Lexa from the 100 very different from Alicia. Lexa wew brave, strong and even more beautiful 😀 but Alicia is a boring stupid girl . And Jake is even more annoying than her . He try to continue negotiations while he knows it doesn't work.
