The film was shot by 62 cinematographers in 70 countries, both superstars and beginners, who were challenged by the director to submit "documentary shots of Nothing" in 5 distinct stages, from carte blanche to full instructions. They did so through a customized online brainstorming platform, on which they could view and comment the footage of each other, but without knowing who said or who filmed what.
When asked for impressions after recording the narration, Iggy Pop responded: "This was like something from the Renaissance or something. Like Dante or something. Pretty cool."
