As a kid I used to watch the young Prince Charles on television and my parents would inform me, one day this man will be our king.
Now middle aged, I tell my teenage children when I see Prince Charles on television, that this pensioner cannot wait for his mother to die!
In this episode Prince Alastair arrives at the Palace as Henry confides him of his plans to abdicate and whether he is ready to step up as the new monarch. Of course Alistair as Prince of Wales would be groomed to take over the monarchy one day from infancy I would have thought, hence my Price Charles quip above.
However Price Alistair is also gay and has returned with his Australian boyfriend in tow, who seems shocked at seeing such a big palace. Did he not know who Alistair was? Alistair proposes a gay royal wedding at Westminster Abbey.
Henry is still seeing Serena but it looks like the press is on to them and maybe Henry is eventually reconsidering his idea to abdicate.
Apart from the King's mother sharing a spliff with her grandson, there were only a few amusing moments in this episode. As I said before, this is a gentle comedy with not many interesting characters, it certainly is not classic Clement & La Frenais.
