Best Remembrance Show Ever

I found this show to not only be very informative but moving. It was fascinating how these men look back on their incredible deeds and how it impacts them to this day. This is a must see story for not only those who appreciate war heroes but anyone interested in history. A far cry from the garbage seen these days on History channel where redneck make knives in their BBQs and other cheap reality shows. There may be some hope for actual history channel subscribers.

Best of its kind

Having watched a good few "dramatic reconstructions" mixed with veteran interviews I was absolutely blown away by how good this is. Black Watch Snipers is head and shoulders above the competition for a number of reasons:

1. Quality reenactments. They have real actors dressed in accurate uniforms in realistic settings instead of the usual crowd of witless extras with their helmets on backwards. How refreshing to see an scouting squad going into action with bolt action rifles rather than Rambo wanabees festooned with machine guns.

2. Great maps. You were led through were the unit was and what they were doing so you had a flavour of how the campaign was progressing.

3. Without wanting to give too much away the way the narration is handled is especially well but you won't realise this until the end.

4. The veterans themselves. I had not realised the role and function of the scouts and their sniping and intelligence gathering mission. These wonderfully dignified old gentlemen had such spirit and pride in their amazing achievements I was surprised there was no mention of any decorations they had won.

At the end I began to think that here was a Canadian Band of Brothers mini series in the making but then concluded, as my tears dried and the lump in my throat went down, you have no need to subject such heroism to the Hollywood treatment as it only diminishes the truth. Everyone should see this programme and see that in times of war ordinary men can achieve extraordinary things.

I found this documentary very interesting and moving. I'm Canadian myself but hadn't heard of the Black Watch Snipers. Very educational and informative. Outstanding group of men! I would highly recommend this documentary to everyone.

This is the first time I've heard of this elite special forces unit. How have I never heard of them until now?! I'm baffled! This unit was sent on suicide missions, ROUTINELY, and I have to assume that this documentary was the work of someone that knew how important they were and had to get their stories recorded while they are still around to tell us.

It was touching to watch the gentleman saying how glad he is to be able to finally tell his story and get this stuff off his chest after all these years!

A movie must be made about this unit! I will immediately be reaching out to people in the movie business to make them aware of this unit and their story. This unit's story can make for a legendary WW2 movie.

By modern military standards, they would be classed as a Tier 1 SOF, which is the equivalent of Designation DELTA (Delta Force), DEVGRU (ST-6), MARSOC Force Recon, Russian Spetsnaz-VEGA Group, and British SAS/SBS... yet not a word has been spoken of this unit in all my hundreds of hours of learning about military and warfare, while so perfectly fitting of how legendary Canadian snipers are. Just an FYI, Canadian snipers hold the records for 3 of the top 4 longest confirmed kills, including the #1 spot of 3,450m and we're talking a record that will not be broken for many years.

Though I'm American, I grew up in northern Maine, directly on the Canadian border, and I have Canadian family and friends - my grandmother is Canadian, and I have a camp in Canada. I've spent a lot of time in Canada and I love the country and the people. This documentary did a stunning job of capturing this aspect of the war, and if I was a Canadian, I would be SO proud of my country after seeing this!
